The changing reality for lower and middle class Malaysian Chinese.

chinese ladies

My friend wrote this on his blog. It is sad but as he always reminds me, we live in a world of reality.

But what is reality? Reality-
noun
1. all of your experiences that determine how things appear to you; “his world was shattered”; “we live in different worlds”; “for them demons were as much a part of reality as trees were” [syn: world]
2. the state of being actual or real; “the reality of his situation slowly dawned on him” [ant: irreality]
3. the state of the world as it really is rather than as you might want it to be; “businessmen have to face harsh realities”
4. the quality possessed by something that is real [ant: unreality]

Perhaps I have not been living in a world of reality. I just survive in my little cocoon in my little corner of the world. I have always been like a pebble in a stream. The water passes me by and I am surrounded by water but I am never part of the water :(

When I pause to think of reality, the economic reality, the political reality, the world does indeed seem a little depressing. The only constant is people are born and people die. My good friend is always conscious of reality. I am like the perpetual Peter Pan. Never grown up. Yet, I have lived a long life, experienced a lot of stuff and met so many people from all strata of life. I am not rich but able to provide for my family with my daily toils and labors.

The reality is I cannot change the water all around me. At most I occupy a void which the water cannot take away from me. Some people generalize and say the Malaysian Chinese are like that. They dig a hole and bury their head in the sand. They know what they can do and what they cannot do. The reality is that they are trying to survive in a country which fifty years from independence still considers them as Chinese and not bangsa Malaysia.

The changing reality is that this time around, many lower and middle class Chinese are more politically conscious. They may not tear their clothes in frustration and rant against the world but I believe many Chinese now realize how important their votes are for the future of their future generations in the coming elections.

This hole in the sand cannot be called home any more.

Bengbeng, if we all wake up to reality and work towards improving it in a realistic manner, then the real world would likely be better.

Why bother about what goes on in the world? Depression doesn’t help living life.

Life is all about making the best out of it. Not about depression and gettin’ your foot into dirt like politics and gossips. Who cares? Does it make one’s life better if one care so much about what goes on in the world?

The world would be a better place if everyone starts to care about the immediate surroundings like family and friends rather than economics and politics.

But economics and politics are integral parts of our life – if you choose to ignore them, you are as good as burying your head in the sand.

    I ASKED GOD…

    I asked for strength
and God gave me difficulties to face.
    I asked for wisdom
and God gave me problems to solve.
    I asked for prosperity
and God gave me my body and brain with which to work
    I asked for courage
and God gave me dangers to overcome.
    I asked for Love
and God gave me troubled people to help.
    I asked for favours
    and God gave me opportunities.
    I received nothing I wanted
but instead, I received eveything I needed.

One day pebble, the stream is going to stop flowing and you are going to luster like the other pebbles around you under the bright sang suria.

That day is around the corner when other pebbles stop the flow upstream. Sometimes you may be one of them that the stream pushes too hard that the pebbles gather and form a small dam.

That day when the stream runs out due to it’s own doing.

Reality changes from time to time. Your time will come. Never Give Up Hope.

The government controlled media doesn’t seem to reflect this reality. It seems that everything is ok :(

Don’t believe in 100% of STAR, NST, UTUSAN, NAN YANG and all government controlled media. They only tell you what they want you to hear. Check them out by going to PKR, PAS, jelas.info, politikus, johnleemk, and other websites that have high readerships. You will be surprised reality can change.
