Negative outlook for Chinese New Year

beijing trip

As Chinese new Year approaches, I feel little excitement. I haven’t done any new year shopping nor bought any goodies. Based on previous years experience, I should get about seventy to about a hundred visitors. At the last moment, I will get a bottle of liquor, a few boxes of mandarin oranges and some cartons of soft drinks. I have little inclination to do anything else unlike previous years.

Neither do I have the mood to go house visiting. It has to do with becoming jaded as the years go by. CNY for the parents has more to do with giving ang pows. I read on another blog about cultural traditions etc but it has long disappeared from my CNY :)

Honestly I see little light in the year ahead. I have to pay Rm1950 just to cross the river this year whereas it used to cost me only Rm730 per year by ferry. I will still have to fork out about Rm 6000 per year minimum on petrol bills if the price remains unchanged.

Prices of things have gone up and are expected to go up further. If we have an election, the BN under the leadership of our beloved PM AAB will continue to rule for another term. If there exist a concept of report card in politics, how many marks would our present government leadership get? A distinction, a credit, a pass or a failing grade?

Is there much to look forward to when America is facing recession and the China bourses are facing tremendous pressures to find a solid footing away from frenzied speculation by first-time speculators.

I have had to stay up late counseling friends who have been depressed with the latest happenings on the KLSE. I have been lucky but many have been burned.

It is impossible for the opposition to win although the ruling coalition will win by a smaller margin. DAP and PKR will definitely jostle for the post of opposition leader. Either ways, it is like the saying: out of the frying pan and into the fire. Whether the ruling coalition or the opposition wins, the citizens are the ones most affected.

I foresee a tiresome time ahead for Malaysians. :(

Think of Benghui! Think of Benghui!!! Kids love festivals like Xmas and Chinese New Year!!! Make sure he enjoys himself and has a whale of a time!!! They’re only young once. Old people never mind, celebrate or not, makes no difference! Unless you’re one of those u believe that u must celebrate on a grand scale, giant firecrackers and all, so that the coming year, u will “fatt chai”???

i cannot afford fire crackers :( Every year I take benghui to watch the neighbors play fireworks :)

You need a temporary maid to do the washing? I’m available…;poor pensioner needs the money badly!!!

P.s. Good! Don’t buy! The fumes are poisonous! One sniff = 8 cigarettes! Imagine Poor Benghui breathing in the smoke!!! Just let him watch from a distance - those stupid people spending so much money to poison their lungs and kill themselves!
