Sarawak:Iban longhouse visit

Iban miring ceremony
Uploaded by mylongkang

We were fortunate enough to be invited to visit a long house at Sungai Assan. We were given a warm welcome including the traditional tuak and miring. When the cock was brought out to be sacrificed, all parties decided to let the cock live. The ceremony was mainly symbolic.

To live amongst such beautiful surroundings and fresh air must be such a blessing. The long house is itself more than 60 plus rooms long. To access the long house, you have to pass the Lanang Bridge toll complex, take the first turning on the left : i.e. the road which leads to Durin- I think :) It is a tarred road but it was not a smooth ride. I suspect a lot of heavy vehicles use that road.

Talking about longhouse visit, I am so embarrassed. My sister had married to Sarawak for 10 years and I had been to there so many times, yet every time I told my sister I want to explore to remote places like the orang asli and the long house she will always reject my proposal. I think she has been worried too much.
