Inflation and everything is so expensive
I went shopping today with Mrs Bengbeng. I am still shell-shocked. Almost everything has gone up in price. If nothing is done soon, things will go out of control. The Rm50.00 is handled randomly in our daily lives now when compared to the past it was considered a big note.
For purchasing a box of oranges, some soft drinks, canned food and a few new year delicacies… the cheap ones..the bill came up to Rm182.00 In the end, the oranges were not nice too! It wasn’t sweet and tasted almost bland. Definitely not worth the trouble of hauling it all the way from China.
It remains to be seen how the new year will be like. But if my friends are any indication, nobody seems to take it in a big way. Most people I know are purchasing the usual soft drinks and oranges and a few extra stand by food items. Few are spending money on luxuries this year. In a way, this is an indirect vote for the coming general elections. It shows the people are weary of the economy and fear the worst is yet to come.
Benghui wanted to eat at KFC tonight but after the shopping trip it hurt me to think of spending money again!
I met two guys tonight. One wanted to sell me a water filtration system and another wanted me to buy insurance. All after my money .
With my limited resources I cooked noodles instead for the family. Total Rm2.00

hi bengbeng! thx for dropping by my blog earlier!
i agree.. the price of food has definitely gone up.. and it’s not only 10-20 sen, but 60-80 sen, in the case of a bowl of noodles here in KL in one of the airconditioned kopitiam… my salary also not yet increase but the price of EVERYTHING went up already.. sien
anyway, happy new year to u & yr family!
A lot of price increased quietly, I feel your pain too…
Yea! Self-Cook meal is the way to go!
Cheaper and healthier too
Even prices at pasar malam has increase.
I agree with 3POINT8! If I may recall from my Econs lessons, inflation = too much money chasing too few goods. So save your money, don’t spend! Then u can fight inflation. Time to tighten our belts! Don’t eat out unnecessarily! Ta pau 1 packet kampua - shared by 2 (BTW, Rasa Sayang only RM2…and if ta pau, so much!! Can eat breakfast, lunch and dinner!!! Ha ha ha ha ha!!! Old man tends to exxagerate a bit lah!) This Bengbeng! Eat here, eat there, eat everywhere…even as far as Selangau!!! How not to increase, all the food prices!!
Even in SG, everything seem to have increased significantly in price EXCEPT for salaries
Beng, you’ve an award waiting to be claim at my blog post “First Blog Award”.
Chinese tea peng in Miri now costs 80cents. It shocked me when I was paying RM2.40 for 3 cups of them, for I could remember, it only costs 30 cents when I had it in Sibu not so long ago.
I’m in Sibu now and I could see all the crowds rushing in, but honestly, despite all the buzz in the shopping mall, I don’t see any big spender in it. Buying power has dropped significantly.
I agree. Look out for petrol price increase after the election…
most things are still being kept down until the petrol price increase - then the floodgates will open, starting with transport costs & this will snowball into everything else we purchase.
so you did a good thing - voluntarily eating at home. soon, we all may HAVE to.
So when can I taste your home cook meal?
definitely need tat small baby. i think will cut down petrol cost by more than half. everyone’d be too busy starin at u tat u’d be cruisin too smoothly
