Household financial planning is now a headache-Weekend snapshot
For my weekend snapshot this week, I submit a pic of my weekly groceries.
Today I spent Rm116.00 to buy staples like noodles, rice, biscuits and household toiletries. At the market, I spent another Rm50.00 just to buy vegetables, some fish and chicken. I paid another Rm84.00 for my petrol. A total of Rm250.00.
I can’t imagine how small money has become. It seems that it is now a global phenomenon but that is little consolation. Every body needs to survive however. So I had a family meeting. The word now is economize. With elections around the corner and warnings by the previous administration of the country to be ready for price hikes, I guess every body except the loaded ones have to tighten their belts. No more luxuries.
This is not to mention the other necessities like electrical bills, telephone bills, water bills, other annual fees. mortgages, loan repayments etc. Soon those with big families will be living from month to month. What a frightening and sobering thought. And if every body is looking for new sources of income, will there be enough opportunities: no matter how creative the citizens of a country are.
I think this is a nightmare many parents are facing today. Many of my peers are cutting corners wherever they can.

You currency is in ringgit, mine is in Sing dollars! And everything in Singapore is imported, so my expenses is much higher than yours. We are also having a hard time. sigh….
welcome to the club
Your expenses and mine almost the same on a weekend grocery spree. Except mine is in SGD$ *pulls.hair.out* doesn’t help that I’ve got 2 kids that raid my fridge every 10 mins!! *faint*
buy a usd3.00 lock for the fridge? hahahahahah. jokes aside my kid refuses to eat. influenced too much by Mrs BB on careful dieting
You know what, that’s what we have been discussing with my hubby. To save and save this days. We live in Tokyo. One of the most expensive city in the world! I wish I can buy that a lot of stuff for that money here:) Thanks for sharing!
Life is really tough. No money no talk era. Recent Matta Fair is no more attractive to me cos money to buy food and pay utilities already not enough, what more to say traveling. *sigh*
Your right it is too much to always have to budget our life around the almighty dollar, we should be able to enjoy what we earn. I wonder how much our politicians cut back there spending.NOT!!!!!
Nothing is cheap these days. But as the saying goes, ‘Things go up but never come down’.
Diesel over here was .95p per ltr some 4 mths ago and now we are paying £1.08 per ltr for diesel.
With kids in uni, it does not get better.
The rich gets richer and the poor gets poorer! At the end of the day, we must really be thankful we have a roof over our head and food on the table. Just eat less extravangantly and tighten up the belt where things are not really necessary. This grandmother has been down that road before.
My wife and I spend about US $700 a month on groceries, and we do not buy any extravagant items. That is about RM 2251.27. We have cut back quite a bit. We used to spend about about US $1300 a month before, and cut out the extras.
Our monthly expenses are about US $5000 a month, and we are living a simple life. That would be RM 16,080.50 a month.
Want to live in the U.S? If we lived in New York, London or Tokyo, it would be much worse.
If Only I could buy a 2 RM lunch!

the Rm2 lunch is still available during the bulan puasa season and i have to be creative but things r generally more expensive nowadays but still manageable if we dont eat out so often. the thing is recently there has been a glut of fruits n vegetables…they produced more than the local market can absorb. so the prices have dropped.
my monthly expenses are about Rm 5000 and that is without luxuries. but we earn in Rm not USD. actual expenses r not that high but the costs of monthly payments on insurance and investments etc are.
This is a good weekend snapshot post. The cost of groceries is high where I live too. I hope you have a good week.
It is global. We have the same situation here in the Philippines. Everything is going up.
Happy WS.
interesting post… happy ws
yes, can get rid of internet also. no use mah why waste money?
sigh sigh sigh ***.
everything is expensive now, except those in the garage sale here,
have a good day
wow… same here. Husband and I are in tight budget, we would just shake our heads because we cant believe that how little we could buy now from a 100$ bill now a days.
We spend a little over 84 RM for our petrol and that’s every week. Same with the groceries. Expensive, the taxes are too high.
each time i fill up the tank full it lasts only a few days Rm84 jus gone like that
Don’t need to compare globally. Just between KCH and Sibu the difference is major. Previously, petrol for us per month was like RM400, now luckily about RM180. Although Sibu is small and slow but at least it’s still within budget. Tips to save more. “DON’T EAT OUT!!”
my monthly petrol bill is about Rm400 per month but it fluctuates. my toll charges are Rm186 per month. but prices in Sibuespecially for food r still reasonable i believe
Money is tight here too, I hate it!
I think you’re still lucky compared to my country
RM 5 can already fill your tummy with RM 1 pisang goreng and teh tarik..(*just missed these foods lah*
…but five peso can’t even buy 1 stick of banana cue, too bad.
Nice post for the weekend
and yet people say it is a rosy life over here in malaysia
well, they bitch but they do nothing about it.
i really do not know how to reply this comment but i understand yr sentiments
I see you have a pack of instant noodles there. Instant noodles for dinner ah?
i only shop for one person, myself. last week i spent around rm45 for grocery. this week i spent around rm70 for grocery! i dun understand why…! everything seems to be so pricey.. i only buy toilet rolls, noodles, tissues, cereals, butter, snacks, small chair pillow, etc etc… where all my money goes~~
talk about money..gessh everything is expenssive, we try to cut in many things especially right now that I cant work. Cant live here without money, I missed the days when I can buy 25 cents for 10 piece of paper or 50 cents of one pack of snack..lol
Try living in a country that has a minimum income tax of ~23% (and up to 60%) and VAT of 21%
And it’s excluding social security tax AND health insurance!
Yes, it’s where I’m living now…
Welcome to the (crappy) Western world…
i am not really complaining js a little worried for the future

Hehe I know you aren’t BengBeng, but it’s good for you to know what (crap) countries there are.
