Another actress who meant a lot to tv viewers in the past was Carol Burnett. The Carol Burnett Show is a sketch comedy television show starring Carol Burnett, Tim Conway, Harvey Korman, Vicki Lawrence, and Lyle Waggoner.

The stars became household names with such sketches as “As the Stomach Turns”, “Went with the Wind” (a parody of Gone with the Wind featuring a scene with Burnett as Scarlett O’Hara in the dress made from a window curtain, complete with rod), “Carol & Sis”, “Mrs. Wiggins”, “The Family”

Vicki Lawrence is the only cast member, other than Burnett, to remain with the series for its entire run. Tim Conway did not become a full-time cast member until 1975. Harvey Korman left the show prior to its final season; he was temporarily replaced in the fall of 1977 by Dick Van Dyke. Original cast member Lyle Waggoner left the series in 1974 to pursue a dramatic acting career and the next year was cast in Wonder Woman.

Housewife, farming, parenting and voting

sibu

Yes, it is better being a farmer now. Vegetables fetch a better price. But we are scared of the weather and the flood waters. People think wuah we are so rich oh so suddenly when the price of vegetables go up. We have to recoup for our spoilt vegetables. Fertilizer is so expensive nowadays. Everything is expensive. We need to sell. People need to buy.

Lydia Shum Din-ha is dead.

Lydia Shum in her younger days

The world says farewell to Lydia Sum. Personally I loved that woman. I grew up with her and enjoyed her comic roles and pushy ways as she acted out her various roles in a natural manner drawing audiences into the plot.

A tale of two voters and the food they eat

Case 1: Early 40s successful businessman.

I will vote for the incumbent this year. He came to visit my area a few days ago. He took a walk and looked around. I don’t know what he did but I noticed this morning the drains had gone down. Of course I will vote for him. I used to vote for the opposition but something needs to be done and for things to be done we need funds only the ruling coalition can provide.

The Chinese New Year celebration is almost over. Pic shows a shirt I bought for the occasion but I had a chance to wear it only once.

These are my favorite tit bits. They are actually pastries wrapped around dried jam. Absolutely delicious.

PKR vs DAP and the effects on Sarawak politics

central market

I read with interest PKR vs DAP. After sending Benghui to Sunday school, I went for my regular kampua. The topic of conversation over there was still the PKR vs DAP issue.

The people involved numbered seven. Mainly in the thirties and forties. Venue: coffee-shop 1st floor, Central Market. With the price of everything up and the anticipated inflation after the election, every body literally every body is hot and excited over the elections.

Photohunters : Theme-free.(White chickens traumatized by slaughter scene)

photohunters2mo1

Photohunters theme this week is free : For my entry this week I highlight a chicken family. They live for free with no rent and free food and are treated like royalty. Free

white chickenspair of white chickens

These are not the ordinary chickens bred for the kitchen. Previously they were very tame. They would approach any human and love to be petted and touched. However during the Chinese new Year they saw the Indonesian maid slaughtering their parents for the reunion dinner.

Pics show the chickens’ backyard..their free home.

They made a lot of noise and went wild apparently scuttering around the back yard. Since then they refuse to approach human beings and hide here and there hoping not to be noticed. They are still very tame as long as no human hands approach them.

To me it is amazing how intelligent they are and it shows they may have been traumatized by the slaughtering event. Or am I putting human emotions into their behaviour?

Echoes from the past

robin

I once met a guy who looked like my father. It was at a wedding reception in the O.X.A or O.F.A or something in Pulau Tikus. I remember it as a white washed bungalow building and possibly the name of the street was Victoria Green or something like that. Is there such a street in Penang? He was a singer and guitarist.
