Interesting characters : Male mid 70s, very old fashioned, conservative Foochow elderly man.

First of all I would like to thank those who have left me comments. Permit me to reply through this post.

It was like any other day. She saw her children, left home to buy some rabbit meat to cook for her grandchildren and then went to the tua pek kong. Immediately after praying, she had a stroke. She left no last words before she slipped into unconsciousness.

Questions a daddy cannot answer his son

Sometimes there are questions a daddy cannot answer his son.

Daddy, do you want me to pray for ………………
There are so many sick people here.
They have nobody to pray for them, daddy?
Why are the people sick? They never wash their hands before eating?
Daddy why are you and mummy crying?

Why isn’t she moving?
Will she come home with us?
She is good people, why is she sick?
If I behave well, will she become better, daddy, daddy answer me!
I am so scared daddy. Mummy, I am so scared….

One day, you will also be like this daddy?
i will also grow old and sick and die?
I never want to grow up.
I don’t want to eat so much so I will be small. Jesus will care for her?
Daddy, daddy don’t cry daddy …mummy..

Update:
Benghui:Will she be coming home? ( crying ). Did I do something wrong?
Bengbeng (Question daddy can answer a son ) :No Benghui, it is not your fault. You did no wrong. It is not your fault.

Free Tibet-monks disrupt press conference

The topic of Tibet was the topic of conversation among my friends today. Many of them are concerned about the latest developments there. A few monks who had the courage to interrupt a press conference has given a human face to this Tibetan problem.

When death beckons

This morning the sun is shining brightly and I feel so much energy and life all aound me. I cannot imagine how I felt so sombre last night or how the spectre of death seemed so near. How well prepared are we for the day death beckons?

Old men and women have been known to weep in fear and regret for the appointment with the maker. Are we like other creatures and just finish our existence upon death or do we descend or ascend to a different plane? Young men and women never think about it until they meet with an accident or have suddenly been diagnosed with cancer or HIV for example.

Fly Fisher, fly fishing, salmon, trout and my life

Guest Blogger (Fly Fisher)

Who is Fly Fisher?

My wife is from Sibu, but we live in Southern Oregon in the U.S. We have a house in Sibu that my wife’s family lives in. We built it new in 1997. We go back to Sibu every few years, when we can. We both enjoy reading Sibuian and Malaysian blogs to keep in touch with all things Malaysia. As you can imagine, life in Southern Oregon is very different from Sibu. As in all towns, it some ways better and some ways not. Sibu has better food, for instance. We used to live in San Francisco, where the Asian food is fantastic.

Life on the Rogue River

We live on the Rogue River, so much of our life revolves around the river, and for me, fly fishing. I even taught fly casting once in Sibu. We live in a very rural area, kind of in the middle of nowhere. Here is a picture of the back of our house that faces the river.

My husband is stealing my children from me

Character : small coffee stall operator, mid 40s

Lydia: God is so unfair. I dont know what sins I must have committed in my previous life to lead this kind of life. I met my husband when I was 28 years old. He is not handsome or rich but he was interested in me. And he was a man. That was enough. He told me his marriage was only in name and his wife didn’t love him.

Examinations, studies and the results

studying

It has been a stressful week. Benghui has been slogging for almost a week now. Every where we go he brings his notes and books along. I doubt he reads but occasionally I can hear him reading from the back. It is a lot of memory work. He memorizes essays, spellings and Chinese strokes. He reads the multiplication tables aloud.
