Sibu gourmet Chinese Foochow food for gluttons :) - Weekend snapshot

WS2

There is nothing I love more than food. This weekend I had an opportunity to host a blogger friend, bongkersz. We had a wonderful lunch courtesy of Mr Suituapui or if translated into English means the beautiful curvy one. :)

The food was wonderful and I was afraid to eat freely as eating prawns can be sometimes very messy. However when I saw Bongkersz enjoying himself tucking into the prawn in cheese, I couldn’t resist joining him: diet or no diet.

The delicious food : sea cucumber soup, teh chee peng, chicken in pandan leaf, prawn in cheese and spicy fish fillet. The venue was Ruby Cafe.

It is great to have a friend like Suituapui. I hope there will be more and more occasions like this in the future :)

Bengbeng, the more I read your blog, the more you’re enticing me to visit you one day, for the company AND food!! So when are you going to buy me a plane ticket? :P

    anytime…anytime hahahahahaah

Prawn is a favorite of mine, cheese or no cheese. That chicken pandan is very familiar. Tastes good too but deceiving. They look big with the leaves but really small inside.

I always thought ’suituapui’ means ‘pretty big fat’. Where is the Hokkien word for curvy one? :P
Are you trying to tempt us all to come and see you with all these lovely food photos?

  14. nona on 10 March, 2008

bengbeng, you made me envy with those yummy foods lol! wuah, I want to go back to Msia actually, I really missed buttered prawns…fish head curry and more. I’m drooling haha!

  15. suituapui on 10 March, 2008

Correction, Bengbeng! It’s Butter Scotch Freshwater Prawns, and I think they use butter and milk to prepare the rich creamy sauce, not cheese. It was a delight to watch bongkersz eat, going ooo…aahhh……, obviously finding everything SO delicious, unlike what one gets in KL.

The fish dish was fish fillet in Thai sauce…And you did not mention the “changkok manis” fried with egg and the bitter gourd fried with salted eggs. The latter is SO nice that even people who never liked bitter gourd before would come back for more.

And the rich blended kopi-o ais!! Anytime better than Starbucks or Coffee Bean!!!

That was for 3 persons…and yet, the servings were so huge, there would be enough for 5 or 6 people! The 6 dishes together with rice and drinks cost only around RM60, a bit pricey because the prawns are rather expensive on the market. Otherwise, a meal for 3 would be around RM30-40 only.

Come to Sibu…the gourmet/glutton’s paradise - NICE, yet CHEAP!!!

lynn: The pandan chicken in Ruby’s comes in big chunks…and I dunno wat they marinate it with cos the meat was so tender and delicious. I ordered 4 - 2 for Bengbeng and 2 for Bongkersz, none for me (I’m watching my figure), and Bengbeng liked it SO much I had to order another two for me…and yet, somebody claims he’s on diet!!!

eastcoastlife: You’ve still got ur ticket wat? That time u didn’t manage to go to Kuching to join nyonyapenang and gang there? Come, come!!! I’ll bring you to ALL the good places for ALL the good food! MY treat, of course…and when I go to Singapore, it’s your turn (and considering the exchange rate, it will be to my advantage, rite?)! LOL!!!

judy: I’ve got curves at all the wrong places!!! That Bengbang trying to butter me up…so that next time, if there are any bloggers in town, I’ll invite him to come along too!!! Na na na na na!!!!

  17. suituapui on 10 March, 2008

Oops…error! I ordered another 2 pandan chicken for Bengbeng, not for me. I didn’t touch the chicken nor the prawns…cos I’m still fasting, with the shingles I had over Chinese New Year, and Dr Bernard was SO nice to drive all the way to have a look at it. Free consultation some more!!!

So Dr Bernard, you were supposed to come to Sibu. When are you coming? Must give you BIG treat! My daughter’s chicken pox ok now…thanks a lot for your help!!! I owe you a lot!!! Come…come to Sibu!! We are waiting!

  18. cibol on 10 March, 2008

wah wah wah … bengbeng say wanna diet ah? STP, this wan sure dun have in KL wan la. But namind, we still have next time hor .. I’ll be back for more .. muhahahaha!

  19. clement on 10 March, 2008

wah.. stp… gua lau nua liao….. you’re a big fan of ruby restaurant eh

  20. suituapui on 10 March, 2008

Well, clement, they can speak English and Hokkein. Many places here, they only speak Foochow and Mandarin…and when I order something, I’m never sure what I’ll get in the end…cos I’m half-past-six in these two!!!!…And besides, the food is nice and cheap!!!

P.S. Gosh…why am I replying to people? Hey, Bengbeng, sorry hor! Berlagak macam my own blog, kepo kepo only!!!

Suituapui: Please go ahead. The KL bloggers are keeping me busy for the next few days. :) Take over the blog . it is yours.

  21. eastcoastlife on 10 March, 2008

I was wondering if I have gone to the wrong blog - suituapui’s!!! hehehe…. He’s hijacked Bengbeng’s blog!!!

Thanks suituapui! You got yourself a good deal with me huh. hehe…. I still have my air ticket, so I’m definitely going over to ma fan you. heh heh…..

The way the prawns are cooked make me drool and wish I could fly to Sibu now!

  23. suituapui on 10 March, 2008

BTW, eastcoastlife…u from east coast - Katong kah? Last time I oso stayed in Katong - Teluk Kurau Road, if I’m not mistaken - use short cut from my apartment to East Coast Road and I would get to St Patrick’s School. But that was so long ago…sure u not born yet!!!!

  27. Clare on 10 March, 2008

Now everyone wants to visit sibu and stay at bengbeng’s place liao. Suggestion to bengbeng and suituapui: bengbeng can rent his room out for minimal charges (what? he pays for your bath water and drinking water and electricity what! not counted petrol to bring you around summore) and suituapui can charge a minimal fee to bring the ‘tourist’ to places with good food. Together both can earn part-time mar…partnership. when bengbeng’s at work, stp can act as tourguide. Bwahahaha!!! Oh ya! I also charge 1% of what both of you are collecting from the ‘tourists’ as my copyright of idea fee. Hahahahahha!!!

  28. doc on 10 March, 2008

    count me in, can?

  30. suituapui on 10 March, 2008

Aiyor, Clare…u see STP so money face meh? No lah! I owes want to treat people, be nice to people…and make lots and lots of friends. Now I’ve my friends from the work I used to do for the ministry and education department, friends from the radio show (traxxfm) and blogger friends! When Melissa celebrated her 18th alone in SP, one of my radio friends drove all the way from KL to deliver a cake to her on behalf of the “family” on the airwaves. So touched!!! So owes be nice to people…and u will be truly blessed! (Gee! So philosophical suddenly hor!!!)
