Examinations, studies and the results

studying

It has been a stressful week. Benghui has been slogging for almost a week now. Every where we go he brings his notes and books along. I doubt he reads but occasionally I can hear him reading from the back. It is a lot of memory work. He memorizes essays, spellings and Chinese strokes. He reads the multiplication tables aloud.

Sometimes I want to tell him to relax. But he is all excited over the exams. He wants to do well so I just let him be. But sometimes I think if he goes on like this, soon he will be burned out. Where is the fun in life if it is all studies? After all he is only nine years old.

Anyway I hope he does well this time. he still has lots of problems catching up with Chinese studies. I am just keeping my fingers crossed he will not be disappointed with his results. Some will say I should encourage him to be diligent in his studies. The number one person is Mrs Bengbeng.

He did very badly the last exam so he is really trying very hard to catch up. It is not easy to be in a competitive class in a competitive school.

I was about to answer a call and put it near my ear when I realized there was something on it. iiks! Imagine if it had crawled into my ear.

9 years old and so much studying? You are right, the pressure starts too young but I gather it is Asian schooling system.

My kids were still happy go lucky up to 16 years of age. I suppose even when they were sitting for their AS and A levels, they managed to party, watch tv, play games and pretty much relaxed about the whole thing.

I hope Benghui achieves the results he aims for and will be encouraged by the outcome of his hard work.

i await the outcome anxiously too.

You’re a great father. I would imagine most parents now DRIVE their children insane with studies and studies, not even stopping to think about other aspects that they need to be encouraged in, like spirituality, ethiquette etc.

But your son seems to be very hardworking. The best you can do is support him, like my mum? When she sees me study very hard she would boil barley or green beans soup or those kind of things. And it kinds of push me to work harder knowing that my parents care.

    Good luck to him!

This is a good suggestion. i never thought of that. will do that

You’re lucky your son loves to study and work hard to get good results for his exams. I’ve a hard time even to get mine to pick up his school books during normal time let alone exams time. But he seems to have no difficulty in picking up comics and story books during that time lah.. Luckily he’s the type who seems to be able to do well without studying too much. Dunno where he got that from. I’m blur at school subjects! LOL.
    Happy Parenting!

So much stress on kids nowadays. That’s not positive. Imagine the level of stress he has to handle throughout his life.
Exams, test, results - it’s just nightmare to me now!

Maybe he’s very much relaxed even though he’s all excited for the exam. It’s a good thing. Every individual relaxes in different ways. If he does not find the exam stressful (but we think he’s under stress) then maybe there’s no cause for concern. Some people find the ‘fun’ in studying and discovering new things, or being able to remember facts well.

the test papers are coming back. he is not doing well in spite of all his efforts :)

Wuah! So poor thing the kid. I don’t remember having to bring books and notes everywhere when I was in Primary school ler. Primary school was too easy for me last time so didn’t really study. Hahaha!!! Parents also didn’t force to study.

And come to think of it, in a month’s time, I don’t have to sit through exams anymore! Yay! We celebrate when I get back okay? :D

For me if got free food, anytime :)
