Sibu gourmet Chinese Foochow food for gluttons :) - Weekend snapshot

WS2

There is nothing I love more than food. This weekend I had an opportunity to host a blogger friend, bongkersz. We had a wonderful lunch courtesy of Mr Suituapui or if translated into English means the beautiful curvy one. :)

The food was wonderful and I was afraid to eat freely as eating prawns can be sometimes very messy. However when I saw Bongkersz enjoying himself tucking into the prawn in cheese, I couldn’t resist joining him: diet or no diet.

The delicious food : sea cucumber soup, teh chee peng, chicken in pandan leaf, prawn in cheese and spicy fish fillet. The venue was Ruby Cafe.

It is great to have a friend like Suituapui. I hope there will be more and more occasions like this in the future :)

12th general elections-the morning after

First I would like to apologize for readers who have left comments and I have yet to reply or visit them in return. This week itself has been a little off my regular schedule. On the other hand, it has also been an educational period. Thanks to the internet, I have been exposed to the thoughts of so many different people. I tell any aspiring politician to get a blog. Without a blog or at least a web-site you have lost an important advantage to your opponent unless you figure prominently in the official media.

The past few nights have been spent with friends making the rounds of election rallies getting caught up in the excitement. I will not make any profound political statement. But suffice to say it was a big shock to me to wake up this morning and read on malaysiakini of the amazing gains made by the opposition this 12th general elections.

The people in Penang, smack in the middle of the industrial hub and international tourism destination for example must be careful about protocol. The DAP is the state government but is an opposition party at national level. So is it a government party or an opposition party? A friend from Penang made this surprise comment, ” It is not we intended to vote for the opposition. But the government has given us no other option. We had nothing left to lose. ”

Now the states of Perak, Kelantan, Kedah and Selangor are also involved. These are also amongst the crown jewels of the country. The opposition too has made inroads into many other states. Perhaps the days of the two-party system are finally in sight after a few more elections to come. As a race we must alway move forward and progress. History tells us, a society must be dynamic to survive or it will languish into a state of complacency.

Now the opposition has one term to prove to the electorate it can deliver. The BN too will have to prove to the electorate that it deserves to be given a second chance. It will be interesting to see how the situation develops. But ultimately, the rakyat has benefited.

This is an example of peoples’ power to determine governments and all political parties should take note of this. Is this a sign of new political maturity amongst the electorate? But the consequences of this election will be profound on the future of the country and its people.

Polling day in Sibu- I have voted.

rural area sibu

I have just come back from casting my vote. I drove through small country roads and almost landed in a ditch as my car is quite wide and the other car a land cruiser too was wide. The small country lane is bounded on both sides by ditches.

My favorite green three legged plastic chair

plastic green chair

Character : 12 year-old.

Sonny : I am so happy. I found a chair just before the Chinese new Year. I think if I buy it in a shop it will be very expensive. I am so lucky. It has three legs but if I sit correctly I won’t fall. My father beat me because my results are bad. I fall asleep when I sit on the floor. With this chair, I can study better and get better results.

When I have nothing to do, I sit here and look at the workers going home. Sometimes they would smile at me.

Love flies out the window

Characters : late twenties, plumpish female black pants and sleeveless yellow blouse with bright red and blue flowers and a late forties male dressed in a black shirt and blue jeans.

Female : Your whole life is based on the premise you are God. Your needs always come first. You want only a young wife. A beautiful wife. A working wife. A graduate wife. You need a maid not a wife. By the time I am fifty, you will be seventy. The sun does not rise and set for you. I can do better. Any time I can find a husband. Now my dad tells me you want a loan to help pay for our house. I have a job. I don’t need you. Go look for a Vietnamese wife or something.

Don’t call me. This is ten ringgit for our meal ( throwing a ten ringgit note on the table and leaves )

Overheard in a hawker centre a couple bickering.

Moral of the story: Men as they get older should not be too choosy or too demanding.

I saw this meme on wuching. I can’t sleep because i am coughing so badly so I decided to do it and bore myself to sleep. :) Maybe it might bore you to sleep too as I do not pretend to even try to make it funny. I just answer it as it is. You are welcome to read it or just skip this page.

Sibu voter sentiments elections 2008

I noticed an unusual phenomenon amongst my friends. It has never happened before. Many of them are still undecided on whom to vote for. In the past, by this stage of the campaign period they would have already decided. Many are still sitting on the fence.

Crime, an irrational fear, runaway inflation, petrol price hike and toll charges burden on the population of Sibu

terrpin in a bucket

I have been called a frog under a coconut shell. In this pic I show a terrapin in a bucket. It lives in a small bucket. At the smallest hint of trouble it hides its head and limbs under its shell.

lock

This is a pic of the chain and lock I use for the front door. Security and crime is a serious concern for me as it is for all Malaysians. My father-in-law narrowly escaped being mugged at the tuapekong in Sibu. My wife almost got pick-pocketed inside the premises of a bank in Sibu. I saw personally a home that had been gutted by a fire-bomb. By this I mean a petrol bomb had been thrown at it.

You can read some of my personal experiences.

Is life easy for an average Sibu voter? I just pray all politicians take note of our legitimate grouses and concerns.
