Caring for the elderly, tiffin carrier and independence

rice

I just couldn’t resist buying this 10kg bag of rice. It was on offer for Rm25.30 at Everwin Supermarket. Every little sen counts nowadays as the ringgit is shrinking. I went shopping today. Mrs Bengbeng is far too tired. I have been a little more tired as usual as I have to carry some of the slack.

tiffin

There has been a slight upheaval and she has to care for two homes now. She gets up at 0430 to cook a complete meal and delivers it early when we send Benghui to his school-bus. It used to be quite messy carrying pots and small containers. I decided to buy this tiffin carrier or tingkat in local language. Isn’t it great? With one stroke i can carry three different sets of dishes and have no fear of anything spilling out. There is another deeper container for soup not in pic.

It is unlike the past where families live in houses with big extended families. I wish very much to have family staying with us but nowadays folks prefer to live alone. Enjoy their independence so to speak.

Here in Sibu, it is easier as most houses are big and spacious unlike the pricey condo and apartments where although expensive, room is limited. Also it is a Foochow custom, most old folks prefer to live with their own sons.

So if you find me late in answering comments etc, please bear with me. I will do it eventually :) I hardly have time to blog nowadays. I end my post with a timely reminder : smile and hug your way into the hearts of those who matter to us. It will make the world a better place.

my goodness, do they still sell those carriers? and is it still called tiffin carriers? Tiffin is a old colonial term. Brings back memories of childhood. Though urs look like it is made of stainless steel, all shiny, whilst the ones I used to know are made of enamel, which tends to chip. They are very useful for supplementing the food in hospital for patients. And also used by catering firms to deliver to the home.

it is also environmentally friendly :)

Yes tiffin carrier is very handy. We ask other people to cook for us and they bring our dinner in tiffin carrier everyday. Haha

wuah so good life..that is so convenient

Convenience, yes… but they’re so hard to wash! So many little corners where by big hands can’t fit.

Sometimes we use this to buy food from the store… saves the environment!

lose weight to 68kg and yr fingers will be able to fit in haha

My family have been using those tiffins for years. Normally the dishes are cooked at home and then bought to the shop for lunch. Save times and energy.

10kg rice only RM 25.30 is cheap.

I just bought 10kg rice for S$20.80 last week.

it all depends on grade and quality of the rice. personally we prefer the local rice which is less processed and more natural
