Jungle fern salvaged and given new lease of life
I was driving along when I saw a jungle frond. I don’t know the name but I wanted it. I asked for permission to salvage it. They must have thought I was nuts. To them it is probably rubbish. This is the third one I have collected.
This specimen may not be perfect but it is the most mature of all the plants i have collected.
There are actually three different types of parasitic plants in this particular case. I will separate them and have three plants instead of one
I suppose some of you will think I am crazy for collecting a plant like this. It doesn’t flower nor does it bear fruit. But I love it. It makes the place seem cooler and calming somehow.
Update thanks to Fei :
Hi just chanced on your blog by way of Lilian’s. The plant is known commonly as the Bird’s nest fern and botanically as Asplenium nidus. It is an epiphyte, not a parasite.

cool! three different plants fused together!
the pot does not look big enough tho:)
they r parasites n need very little soil. i jus add some nutrients periodically. traditionally they just grow in the branches of trees n attach themselves to the host plant
I just planted two pots of this parasitic plants. I found the plants in my MIL’s orchid pots. I like this plant to decorate my house.
hope to see more of yr garden soon
ha! ppl dunno the value of a good plants like you do, the angmoh gardeners here will pay lots of $$$ for it!
i love them, they r the closest thing i have to an outdoor hobby
Very nice! Can this be bird’s nest fern?… erm not bird’s nest, as in “yan wo” tho’ ;p
Like you, I also think plants make all the difference! Your home must be very nice and green!
ah, thanks.if u r right, now i have got a name for it
bird’s nest fern
my garden is unkempt nowadays
Being parasitic, does it need a host plant to live on or can it survive by itself?
ps: my blog is up and running yay!
congrats on the blog. it can survive by itself if we give it some soil n nutrients
