Meme : Bloggers’ fans

I received this tag from red-hot-mama Lillian. I found it quite fun except that I didn’t realize we have so many fans and air-conditioners all over the place and in all sorts of nooks and corners. But the humble fans are very much in demand and a necessity in our hot climates.

I plant trees to shade the house from the sun. I use black tinted glass to keep out the heat and the glare but a tropical climate is still a tropical climate.

ventilator fanblinds

1. Oscillator fan: This is the most important one for the home. The wind blows and the fan removes hot hair from the house letting cool air move in to replace the warm air. Notice the red piece of cloth. It is a feng shui cloth and must never be removed as long as the house is still standing. It cools down the house by a few degrees. If you don’t believe it, install one. It is cheap and saves electricity in the long run. However if you are living in a long row of terrace houses, it may not be the best option as all the roofs are linked together and it has to remove the hot hair from all the houses rendering it almost ineffective. To take this pic, I had to be on the ceiling, it was cool even though the sun is very hot today.

2. To me, the blinds and plants, trees etc all around the house act as a fan, letting the wind in but keeping the sun and the heat out.

stand fan.kitchen ventilator fan

3. The stand fan is the most mobile type of fan. It is more powerful than most table fans and usually come along with longer electrical cords.
4. This box fan is used as a ventilator for my kitchen sucking out the hot air and smoke.

table fanlaundry room fan

5. Table fans are cheap and come in attractive designs nowadays. With timers available, it is so easy to operate.
6. The basic 3 blade ceiling fan used in my laundry room.

living room fandining room fan

7. This is a powerful 4 blade ceiling fan. Functional and with remote control. I predict it will last for years and years to come.
8. This is a small ceiling fan. It is powerful too as it comes with 5 blades. We chose this fan because the dining room is very small only 12ft by 12 ft so to put in a normal sized ceiling fan is out of the question.

Notice too the curtains. The curtains are sun-proof. If we draw the curtain, the house will become totally dark. The lace curtains will let in the light when we open the curtains, still keeping out the heat and glare but letting the wind in.

What’s a meme ah? A meme is a stupid thing that one blogger passed to another like a baton. So, to play safe, I am going to tag people I hope will pick up my meme.

They are :

foochow brader

Wuah, you also got many fans. LOL. Thanks for sharing your beautiful home. I like the patio, so cosy.

i think i got 10 fans :) so we we cannot afford to use all at the same time :) nor the air conditioners. the best option is still prevention through the oscillator in the roof.
