Weekend snapshot : Rendang chicken, birthday celebration and landscaped garden

WS2

chicken rendang

Today has been like any other lazy weekend except that I cooked rendang chicken. Honestly my wife thinks rendang chicken is sinful for all the calories it contains including the coconut milk. But I don’t care. I love to eat delicious food :)

Truth is stranger than fiction. Awoke this morning to shouts at my gate. “God has spoken.” My loved one is to die in a day or two. Startled I opened the door. I was told to leave town immediately to say my final good-byes. Apparently they had gone to a shrine where they received the divine revelation.

Words of wisdom and encouragement

I received this through email. If anybody knows the original author I would be glad to acknowledge the author.

Two men, both seriously ill, occupied the same hospital room. One man was allowed to sit up in his bed for an hour each afternoon to help drain the fluid from his lungs. His bed was next to the room’s only window. The other man had to spend all his time flat on his back. The men talked for hours on end.

UFC is MMA (Mixed martial arts). Everyone is crazy about it here. Not fake like wrestling. Not many Asians. Some from Japan, some from Korea. They have a tough time though. The best fighters are from the US and Brazil.

It is three 5 minute rounds, mixed martial arts. Only rules are, no kicking a downed opponent, no hits to back of head (spine), no groin kicking. Chokes allowed. 3 taps means you give up (fights over). You can win by knockout, submission (3 taps), or decision.

They also have submission holds (chokes, arm bars, knee bars)

Stress, panic/anxiety attack, burnout and being a hypochondriac

I just came back from breakfast. I met a security guard who was very agitated lamenting that the PM should step down. I asked him why. He cursed and ranted about how his pay is not enough now for his living expenses. He has a son and a daughter. The prices of goods are indeed going up. Not that the PM can do much about it but you tell that to a man who has to make choices of what food his children have to give up so he can stay afloat. He will curse you! Even give you a punch if he loses his self-control.

High medical costs and few options

The party is over. The guests have left. Under normal circumstances there is the chore of clearing up the mess. But in this case, the spring of well wishers have dried up but the patient is still in the hospital.

It costs a lot to be in a private medical facility in Malaysia. On average in extreme situations, the charges per day may fluctuate between Rm3000 to Rm7000 for basic maintenance of a patient excluding surgical procedures. This translates to an average of Rm90000 to Rm210000 per month. If the patient survives this will escalate to a range of Rm1080000 to Rm2520000 per year.

So the dilemma is what would a family do under these present circumstances? When the general hospital is no longer an option, private hospitals are way beyond our means, what then? My advise to everybody is to buy as much medical insurance as you can possibly afford. You cannot afford not to. For yourself and your loved ones.

Sibu General Hospital, Helicopter ride and overland ambulance

I have been told my posts are getting morbid recently. It is true. I have not been handling this ‘crisis’ well. I am not able to distance myself from this crisis and live as one unaffected. Today many in Sibu had already gone for Ching Ming. A time to remember those who have moved on and appreciate more those who are still with us.
