Thanks to MAS (Malaysian Airline System), medical aids and Labor Day thoughts

I had looked forward to Labor Day. A public holiday on Thursday is particularly welcome as I need it to rest and relax. I have been so busy recently. Alas a day of rest it most definitely was not.

I remember reading on Lillian’s blog about how we have only one life and we should live it and live it well. I realized today that while a career is important it is other things that matter in the long run that are equally important. Like being useful to others, being cooperative and playing out our roles as useful members of the family and society.

Offhand I can think of certain people I know whose life ends the minute office hours end. They go home and wash their formal office wear, hang them out to dry and wait for the next day when they prepare to go to the office again. Then they plan and scheme to make life miserable for others just so they can enjoy flexing their administrative muscle. :) ( joke )

healthy Malaysian breakfast

My day started with Benghui waking me up and asking for breakfast. I checked and the bread bin was empty. I prepared this noodles for our breakfast. He will take some pre-cooked noodles, add the soup and add other stuff on the table for his breakfast. The water melon is dessert. I hope one day, when he grows up, he will realize how he took us for granted and realize how seriously we play our roles as parents to nurture and mould him.

car interior

After that there was the task of looking for a care-giver. We had to prepare a bed for the caregiver. I thought of looking for a lorry but decided to see first if the bed would fit in the car. Fantastic! It fitted and I saved money on the lorry charges.

mattress to dry

I also bought a Rm 140.00 mattress which comes with a 5 year guarantee and three pillows at Rm20.00 each. That price was reached after ten minutes of bargaining :)

Then I spent the whole day shopping for essentials to welcome home a loved one. I went to I believe the only shop in Sibu selling medical aids. There were three different kinds of beds for patients with prices ranging from Rm 988.00 to Rm2888.00. I went there to make arrangements for the bed to be sent tomorrow. They didn’t accept credit cards. Can you imagine operating a business without accepting credit cards? How many people walk around with thousands in their wallets?

To reward my family for being so patient the whole day, we went to the Sibu Cafe Cafe Restaurant. One of the staff promised me a cash discount but he was nowhere to be seen. The proprietor Peter was there but I didn’t want to ask for a cash discount as 10% wasn’t much anyway and Peter doesn’t know me.

cincaluk fried rice

This is Cincaluk Fried Rice. Cincaluk is actually tiny shrimps made up into a kind of spicy pungent paste.

nyonya food

This dish is the Nyonya set. I love it. It loves lovely too, doesn’t it?

I would like to express my appreciation to MAS or Malaysian Airlines System for their kindness and cooperation. Thanks to them we didn’t have to charter a helicopter from Hornbill Skyways and saved a bundle!

I started my day at 6 am cos need to go to church. Then, came back, rest a while, went to DAP opening of the service centre in my kawasan. Then, I took a long nap. After that, I baked a chicken pie. On to shopping for grocery and it is a complete day. Boring but that’s life, I guess.

yup, it’s always good to take a rest and not to take one’s career way too seriously. There’s no point earning rm100,000k a year and spending the rm100,000k alone, or worse still, spending it on hospital bills from years of suffering high-blood pressure and stress from the many years in the office ;)

take a rest, take a deep breath and enjoy the moment ….

enjoy the moment..i like the sound of that phrase…and take a rest..ooh how i love that! :)
