Effective July 1st, retirement age for civil service raised to 58
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi announced today that after taking into consideration the impact on job opportunities for fresh graduates, the retirement age has been extended to 58.
This piece of news will surely be welcomed by many members of the civil service. I won’t assume I can understand how they feel until I reach the age but I know this piece of news will have deep repercussions in the lives of families all over the country.
I am willing to bet that this decision is going to be very welcome.
Highlights:
Civil servants now have a choice to opt to retire at 56 or work until they reach 58 years.
The written test for Grade 1 to Grade 16 officers under the civil service Efficiency Level Assessment (PTK) would be discontinued. PTK would not be abolished but it would be improved from time to time.
Effective Jan 1 next year, the calculation of pension for pensioners and pension recipients would be based on a maximum of 30 years of service, compared to the current 25 years. However, the recalculated pension will only be paid from 1 Jan next year, without any arrears.

I think 58 is fine la… Previously was 55 which is a bit young lo… 60 also ok mah…
Dun know why, I am neither happy nor sad when I read the news this morning. I also feel the same with you. May be I will know better and understand better when I am almost fifty. As expected, PTK will not be abolished. I hope the PTK will improved to a better penilaian method.
