A pot of gold at the end of the rainbow

Somebody I chatted with tonight told me my life was incomplete. He was patronizing. He said, “It has to be more than what I am experiencing. Small town life is limited and not challenging.” “It couldn’t be fun.” he insisted. Anyway I have no regrets with the way I live my life. Every day on earth is a bonus from God.

Benghui told me he wanted to go jogging. Reluctantly I canceled my plans and accompanied him jogging. We are very different. I walk straight from point A to point B. He is like a bee flying here and there, moving in a zig-zag manner : distracted by flowers, cats, kittens, unusual visual objects, sounds etc. And of course there is the one-sided conversation where I give an occasional grunt to indicate I am still around.

Examples :
It is so colorful. It must be a kindergarten.
The kitten is so small. The mother must be near.
I must smell the flower.
Why do you move so fast/slow?
They cycle on the street. They are so young. It must be very dangerous.
You are tired, daddy?

jogging

His reserve of energy is amazing.

Daddy, you cannot catch me!

Benghui : Daddy, we are going to be rich. See. There is a rainbow. I read in a book. There is a pot of gold at the end of a rainbow.

Daddy : I found the pot of gold. ( looking at him )

Benghui : Huh?

I think it was you who said to me before, you and I share the same philosophy of life, or something to that effect.

That pot of gold is ever so close to those who enjoy the simple pleasures.

:) thanks for reminding me. sometimes it is easy to forget in pursuit of loftier goals.
