School children holiday restlessness, the reading habit and SMC library
Now that it is school vacation, Benghui finds it boring to be in the house all day. There are no nearby kids and the neighbours generally just keep in their own compounds anyway.
So I took him to the SMC library.
If at the Popular Book Store, he was happy, here at the SMC library he was overwhelmed by the choice of books available. He couldn’t believe he could just take books home and not pay for it. He has only Rm12.00 left anyway.
Reading is a very popular past-time here in Sibu. Pics show the children’s section of the library. Notice how crowded it is and how disciplined the children are.
These are the books we borrowed. Benghui has finished his. I have just started reading mine. It is a book called Casino Moon written by Peter Blauner.
After reading each book, Benghui has to make a book report for Projek Nilam. Projek Nilam is a compulsory activity for students. They are encouraged to read books and then write book reports.
The missus and I have been so busy doing this and that, preparing food for intravenous feeding etc etc etc and suddenly remembered we had forgotten to send Benghui for his Chinese tuition. We immediately rushed over. When we arrived there, we were told we were there at the right time but on the wrong day.
What’s the word for it? Couple ‘bo tau sin‘ or contagious forgetfulness?
