Proton Savvy, Petronas Syntium 800 vs Mobil 1 0W-20 Advanced Fuel Economy engine oil
I went to do my annual car servicing. I expected to pay a lot. Last year I paid almost Rm400.00
Last year
This year
Mobil 1 0W-20 Advanced Fuel Economy
This year I paid only slightly over Rm120.00 . Apparently it is still in good condition. I used Petronas Syntium 800 as it is cheaper. But a friend told me in the long run I would pay more as fuel consumption would be higher than if I used Mobil 1 0W-20 Advanced Fuel Economy. But what to do? I should have googled first before I sent my car for servicing.
My car is a fuel guzzler. He also told me the importance of using overdrive in an automatic car especially when overtaking. Correct tyre pressure was also important he said and of course placing the gears in neutral when stopping at traffic lights for example.
My DREAM car. I emphasize dream.
Proton Savvy
A salesman told me to get a Proton Savvy for better fuel consumption. Apparently there is a promotion of Rm6000 off the scheduled price for another three days. But the interest rate for loans is a whopping 3.88% for three to six years! Some more, I worry about its potential resale value. One good thing about Proton Savvy is its good fuel consumption. Or another alternative is a small second-hand car like a Kancil. Considering my petrol bills a month and the likelihood of a fuel price revision, I am seriously looking for a second car.
But it isn’t easy when one is looking for a good but cheap car.
Mrs Bengbeng reminded me we can at most afford a down-payment on a motor-cycle hahaha. Trust her to be rooted deep in reality mode and keeping a rein on my fantasies.
I saw this wreck at the workshop.
I must remind myself to always drive carefully. If I am no more, it will be a big jolt to my family and its financial security.

Get a Myvi. I consider it economical to run at 13.5km per liter of petrol. It’s spacious inside and if you need to carry more goods just fold down the backseats.
Unless you know the previous owner very well, don’t buy 2nd-hand. Nobody sells a good car.
Nobody sells a good car.-> unfortunately this is so true. myvi new one could b out of my budget.
And if you think driving a car is dangerous, don’t put your precious life or limbs at risk by riding a motorbike. Take another look at the statistics and decide. Out on our congested roads motorbikes become invisible until you hear a crash!!!
to b honest, i dont feel comfortable on a bike
there r cars every where
You shouldn’t put the car into neutral if you are stopped at traffic lights. kills the torque convertor.
synthium is in f1 cars, so if you draw the parallel… haha…
i wouldn’t recommend the myvi nor the proton. been to the showrooms, and if you press on the car, it dents! think about safety, dude.
it is very hard to make a decision. my present car is 1.6 n very heavy…high fuel consumption too. it banged the gate n the gate was damaged. the car..no visible damage hahahaha but if not into neutral ..wat do u suggest… P?
aiya I also need new car but bo lui cannot afford lor
sell wuching.com
Get a Suzuki Swift. At least it’s not as Milo-tin as Proton and Perodua. Was in that car when it rammed into the car in front last week, the car was slightly dented only.
Suzuki Swift is stable and can take sharp corners at 3-figure speed. It is a well tested car. Economical as well. 1 full tank of petrol can run for half a month (about 300 km).
But if you are looking at the price range of a Myvi then say goodbye to Suzuki Swift lar
i think i kiss suzuki swift bye bye..the price factor
1) I agree with ra on the neutral when idling. There was a study, I can’t remember it now but: the fuel saved is negligible. But it puts unnecessary wear when you do so. So avoid putting it in neutral.
2) If your primary concern is economy, then getting a Suzuki Swift makes absolutely no sense when compared to a Proton Savvy or Myvi in terms of total purchase cost, and thereafter maintenance cost. Yes, Suzuki Swift might get slightly less dented, but to replace the fender or bumper is much more expensive. And in a serious accident, I would guess all 3 small-sized cars will suffer the same. If you are not confident of your defensive driving or paranoid about killer mat rempits, then you have to spend get a large 2nd hand Japanese sedan or German car with better-reinforced structure and multiple air bags. Otherwise just up the insurance coverage, eh. Fact of life.
Savvy gets better mileage than Myvi. Proton has actually improved on the overall safety and build. Except for the stupid power windows which is a 20-year-old problem.
All the best, man. And don’t take advice from commenters, hahaha. As you can see, you get some untrue advice. Googling is best to verify what we’ve posted.
So u recommend Savvy? I am looking for a small car like savvy becos of limited parking space
Only MR$6,000 for a Proton Savvy? So cheap?
I think by the time it gets here, it will be £6,000 then one might as well buy the little Ford car.
Well, considering the possible higher prices for gas in the near future, fuel economy is a major concern. For this, Toyota and Hondas have been market leaders.
I agree with Aw, u need to decide for yourself. My take is that I will spend slightly more for a fuel economical car. Higher initial fixed cost, lower variable cost. Considering there is no visibility as to how high petrol costs will rise.
this is a major decision to make. i will take note of yr opinion. thanks
Savvy- 26 liter ran about 360km… not bad huh…
I am still confused as to which small sized car to purchase, thx 2 u guys.Savvy 4 safety?
safety, i dont know abt that..but for fuel consumption, this is a good buy
