Tiger balm, children and no doctor in the house

headache

It is still a public holiday here in Sarawak today. I felt reluctant to wake up Benghui. I touched his forehead. It is cool. Last night he woke up at about 12.00 midnight crying of a pain in his head. No tactics worked. I tried tiger balm, tried rubbing his head and comforting him by asking him to pray.

I wanted to give him some panadol but he didn’t want to take any medicine. He just kept saying his head hurt. He described it as a worm ( yi tia chong ) in his head. I didn’t want to wake up Mrs BB, I could of course send him to the hospital but seriously what could the doctor do?

tiger balm

He would probably prescribe some paracetamol only and if he is in a good mood, give a dose of counseling to a child. But to be realistic, the doctor on the graveyard shift would probably have been up for like thousands of hours and probably be weary on his feet and just waiting to doze off.

At about two he managed to fall asleep while sobbing. He muttered something about seeing how he would feel the next morning. I couldn’t sleep being worried about him. I haven’t slept the whole night. Once it is past my bed-time I am unable to sleep. He woke up a few minutes ago and when I asked him if he was ok, he was puzzled. He has little memory of yesterday’s pain.

Is my house haunted or what? :) Sometimes, I feel I should turn a deaf ear to Benghui but at the same time I worry what if it is a serious illness. This erratic behavior of his is enough to make me bonkers.

Parents, what would you have done in my shoes? I haven’t slept the whole night. Fortunately today is a public holiday.

If this happens often, you should take him for a check up with the doctor. It might be migrane if the pain is real. Give him some cooling drinks like barley if it is due to his body heatyness that might cause headache.

Barley? That is a surprise. I will try it out very soon.

I think there is a liquid type Panadol for kids, if they don’t like tablets.

i will look around for that.thanks

A case of migraine? My daughter had a few attacks the past few months, we tried everything. A check with the doctor, said it was child migraine. Due to stress or environment. Scary it sounds..but true.
If Beng still gets pain suddenly or long hours and a bit irritable, maybe a check with the doctor would help.

thanks. i will keep that in mind :)
