Weekend snapshot: stroke and easy chair
My son loves his granny very much. He knows as a stroke patient she is probably very bored. He would try to arouse her from her inner thoughts and tease her and basically keep her happy. It is a tall order as any one taking care of stroke patients is aware. For the record I wish to thank God granny has shown remarkable recovery and has managed after three months to able to nod and blink her eyes to communicate with us. Praise be to God.
We thought of placing her bed facing the telly as we hope the sounds and sights will help keep her occupied. But the angle isn’t quite correct. Furthermore she gets bored if she has to lie down on her bed 24 hours a day. Praise God we had an idea. A deck chair has the additional benefit of being able to have its rest gradient changed. She has a wheelchair but doesn’t really like it for reasons we don’t know of. Maybe a deck chair makes it feel more like the good old days.
We tied neck supports on a deck chair so we don’t have to worry about her toppling over. Hopefully this will cheer her up lots and speed up her recovery.
Technically this isn’t really a weekend snap shot kind of post. I just want to share with you all that when every thing seems ‘bad’ life is hard to go on. We need to be positive sometimes. It will fortify our spirits and to be negative brings forth no benefits that I can think of.

The deck chair sounds like a very good idea. Have dealt with similar issues in the past here and finding a way to make the most of the situation can make all the difference. Praying for you and yours.

My grandma also suffered from stroke after Gawai this year… half of her body paralyse… nw my aunt is taking care of her… last week i went back to Miri to visit her… according to my aunt, sometime when she is not happy she refuse to eat any medicine or food… it breaks my hearts to see her like that… i went off with tears flowing but did not let her see me crying..
hopefully she’ll recover… May god bless your mummy and my grandma so that they’ll recover soon… take care….

It’s not easy taking care of a stroke patient. Both my elderly in-laws are sickly and are quite a handful as they have become like kids. sigh…

Hope Granny recovers soon. That’s true, positivity helps a great deal.
It is one of the greatest filial acts of family members to look after a stroke patient as well you have done.
It is not easy for all but love and belief in God will see you through. Many blessings will be upon you in the future.

This is a very touching post Bengbeng. Grandchilddren and grand parents have a very unique bonding and i felt very happy to read whatever you are doing for her. I hope and pray she recovers fast.
world wide recession is coming, our local political scene is in a mess, our nations economy are going nowhere but heading down, and I have to deal with some personal relationship issues…

i think one reason why your mum doesn’t like the wheelchair is that, after lying on the deck-chair/bed all day, sitting up & moving around makes them dizzy. perhaps, try sitting up for some time before moving around on the wheel-chair at a very leisurely pace.
