Fear of the dark is natural?

At first I thought there were unwashed socks under the sofa or something :) Did you smell the pong at my blog yesterday? It was the end of the world for Benghui. The house was quite, very quiet. His heart was broken. He had not been selected to take part in a wushu performance. No amount of diversion worked. He had failed.

Today, when he went for practice, he found he had actually been selected. It was a miscommunication :) Suddenly the house is full of smiles again. It is like dark clouds had been blown away.

The other thing I wish to share is the fear of the dark. I cannot understand. As a child he could see ’stuff’ but it has stopped for a few years. I believe he has already forgotten all about it. This past few weeks he has been hesitant to be alone especially at night. ( Forget jokes about the month of the hungry ghosts etc ) I am just wondering what has caused him to be so alert to these matters when previously he ran up and down the stairs without a second thought. There is genuine fear. He always points to a certain corner. ( the same corner ) No matter how I try to dress up the corner, this irrational behaviour persists.

I have advised him to pray. I told him he is good at wushu so he need not worry etc. I already have my nine red parrots in the house ( local superstition ). I wonder sometimes how a kid has a natural fear of such stuff when they have never seen movies of stuff like this or read about stuff like this.

Other than that today has been a wonderful day. Benghui, his mummy and me had a wonderful quality time watching the Olympics 2008 badminton finals between Lin Dan (China) and Lee Chong Wei (Malaysia). It was also an excellent opportunity to teach Benghui about sportsmanship, winning and how to handle losing.

Seems like our boys have similar fear. Although mine cannot “see” things, he’s a full fledged scardy Cat. He needs his siblings to be his “gut” everything to go get something in the other rooms even in full daylight. I’ve asked him before what he was so scared of he wouldn’t say but I found out that he has been listening to ghost stories in school. Although I’m a Christian and so is my mom, she has suggested that I bring him to see a sinsheh. My other two kids are scared of dark but not as bad as him. Sometimes, it is really frustrating.

    nolah..wat for see a sinseh?

bb: I’m still fear of dark even ive grown up. I think its not so easy to overcome the fear. Is not that i can sense something, but i just scare something is there. :) My nephew who is same age as benghui also have the same prob, but his younger sister are much more braver, always accompany him to toilet, to anywhere in the house at night. :) maybe you should get him a companion?

perhaps it is due to stories told by frens in school

I wish your guy would have won the gold, only because I think every country should be able to celebrate this success. It will happen, when you get this close. The Malaysian track cyclist fought well in his loss also.

Hmm, kids more sensitive to certain things. As long they don’t do damage can liao. And congrats to his wushu hard work! Anyway, why the malaysians I know keep saying Lee Chong Wei cannot get gold medal because Lin Dan never give him drugs to eat? o.O

Chong wei wasnt at his best that night. Ling dan was very good in his skills
