D.I.Y. diet food for a small family Rm10.00

benghui at table

This post is not to be taken seriously. I am not a chef but a no-choice-have-to-cook daddy. I hadn’t realized how the prices of goods have raised the cost of food at the dining table. No wonder the restaurants are charging more. Anyway I cooked the following simple economical dishes. When I added it up, I never expected it to reach Rm10.00

fish ball chicken soup

Fishball chicken soup

ngo hiang

Ngo hiang in teriyaki sauce

long beans with egg

Left overs from breakfast : long beans, ikan bilis and scrambled eggs

stir fried vege

Stir fried vege with ikan bilis

I piece of chicken : Rm1.00
1 egg : 35 sen
Left over assorted vege from fridge Rm1.00
2 ngo hiang ( meat wrapped in pohpiah like skin Rm4.00
rice : 70 sen
fish balls : Rm1.50
vege for garnishing n nice smell : 30 sen
ikan bilis ( a small kind of anchovy fish ) 30 sen
tomato sauce not in pic : 20 sen
teriyaki sauce, salt etc : 20 sen
cooking oil : 45 sen
Grand total : Rm10.00

WaH aH bENG Koh ah..oil, salt and tomato sauce oso u can measure the price. How ah? I oso have to cook more often on weekends to save cost for my family of 6. Eating out would be about 5X your cost in our D.I.Y dish here. At least if I cook (check out what I cook for my family in my blog), I save about 50% of it.It;s healtier , too not to mention cleaner.

and zero msg too :) u b surprised how sometimes if u venture into the kitchen of some places especially the more busy outlets, u might think twice. they r overworked so they rush

you can save some more if you take sugar and tomato and chilli sauce from McD or KFC. no need to put green onion on everything… no need to chiak chang!

i love to chiak chang..i love the smell :) the McD and KFC suggestion is interesting :)

Lots of greens, that’s a good sign. What exactly is “Ngo hiang”?

ngo hiang actually refers to a spice used to make meat dishes taste better ..usually available in a powdered form

Not bad! Healthy balanced food for just RM10. If I eat out nowadays, need to pay at least RM6 for one person.

if every day like this Benghui will lose weight :)
