Parenting game : hugs

It happened quite unexpectedly. It was 0545. All efforts to wake up Benghui for school failed. I then said aloud, ” I am going to count to ten and if you don’t wake up I am going to …going to..” . I was at a loss for words. Then I said, ” Or I am going to hug you ”

Then when he still didn’t wake up I gave him a bear hug. He enjoyed the hug for he was giggling and soon enough he was brushing his teeth and getting ready for school. Now whenever things go out of control or things don’t go right he will count from one to ten. Then he will look at me with an expectant eye. I really have no choice but to play the game with him. Just a hug. I don’t need an expensive gift etc but it is a sure remedy for many situations :)

I mentioned it to Mrs BB and she said we should enjoy it for as long as we can for we anticipate in a year or two he will lose interest in us and think the world of his friends instead. Hopefully one day when he is a parent, he will remember these episodes with fond emotions.

Try it some time. It just might work :)

All my 4 kids love to do that & is a norm they hug their me before they go to bed but nt their dad..mayb because thir daddy is the stern one & “em hing” all this yook mah thingy! My gals would always demand a hug before I leave them at the nursery. Good practice. Not only for kids. Couples should do that too. I do ..I’m the one always hug my hubby but he seldom initiate! Sigh!!!Cina Ah Pek I guess!
