I have alway loved Carly Simon’s music. She seemed to me the epitome of beauty and grace. Her selling point was her music. Being bankrupt in my youth I saved for some time to buy an original LP record by her. The only other original LP record I ever bought was by Tanya Tucker. I was also in love with Farrah Fawcett in those days
You’re So Vain” is a song written and performed by Carly Simon released in December 1972.
The song is a critical profile of a self-absorbed lover. The identity of the lover was always a mystery. At one time the search was rumored to include Mick Jagger, Cat Stevens, Warren Beatty, Kris Kristofferson, the unfaithful fiancé William Donaldson, and Simon’s ex-husband, James Taylor.
The only hint she has ever given are that the person’s name includes the letters “E”, “A” and an “R”. Jagger, Beatty, and Taylor would remain as potential candidates; Stevens, Kristofferson, and Donaldson are all missing one or more of the requisite letters. If she is referring to the first name, then Warren Beatty is the only potential candidate).
