I recently came across this video on my friend, lcteh’s blog. He was singing the song The Great Pretender made famous by the Platters. It got me thinking. In reality we are all different personalities to different people. Does this mean we are pretenders? Multiple personalities … different personalities to different people?
But the root of it all is that man, the human animal, must satisfy certain natural basic needs in order to survive. He must eat, drink, excrete, sleep, maintain adequate health and procreate. These needs constitute the innate nature of man.
And man cannot live alone—he must enter into relationship with his fellows if he is to develop and maintain adequate mental and physical health. We know that this dependency of man on others is exhibited in the continuum of the life process, man as an individual leads us to examine him as a social being — one who lives in a group, subject to the demands and pressures of modern society. To do all that if he needs to have multiple personalities or be the great pretender, he will.
Oh my gosh. What am I rambling about? I was reading nase’s reply to Janvier’s comment and it got my mind wondering and wandering. What are multiple personalities and are they synonymous with pretending? Isn’t pretending second nature to man?

eat full full, drink drunk drunk & f**k shiok shiok!
I’m not sure about being a pretender, but I think we normally behave differently around different people because of the different circumstances. For example, we would not speak the same way around our family and around our bosses.
I’d like to think of it as different parts of our personalities, but each of these parts should reflect the same core values. That means we can’t say one thing to some people but in front of other people we do another thing.
I just love pretending to be a country singer. Wish I had a better background view though. Wife was embarrassed about her washings going “on air”. Hahahaha…
