Lose three kg in a month – achievable goal

Guess it was the food during my vacation, the Chinese new year goodies and after that I was in hospital for a foot injury and the subsequent period to recuperate when I was unable to go to gym.

I have gained eight kg in three months. I didn’t really notice it until Benghui rested his head on my tummy and said it is very comfortable now and then rushed off yelling, “Mummy, daddy is very fat now”.

I have initiated a group amongst my friends. We each pledge Rm20.00 to a common pool. The target is to lose at least three kg in a month. 23rd March 2009. At the end of the period, if we lose three kg we don’t have to pay. The money collected will be used to buy small gifts for all participants ?

What do I intend to do about it? I intend to convert fat into muscles.

1. Go easy on the carbs. Read less noodles, rice etc.
2. Plan my meals carefully. It is not difficult as I eat economy rice during my lunch time so I can choose what I want to eat. The soup and veg will be my secret weapon.
3. Dinner will be my smallest meal usually a bun and an apple or banana or something similar. No food after 7.00pm
4. Change my exercise routine. Plan something more challenging without extending the time spent.
5. Simple short workout in the morning ( read abs exercise ) and a full workout in the evening. I normally have my lunch at 1.00 pm so by the time I hit the gym, I feel lightheaded. I normally take a glass of apple juice/ soya bean milk/ milo or something similar at least 15 minutes beforehand.
6. Use increasing weights and decreasing reps to overload the muscles. I want to work my muscles to fatigue otherwise I am just increasing my endurance.

For the record I weigh seventy six kg now as compared to sixty seven kg three months ago. Once I have achieved this achievable goal, there will be another three kg/month to go etc until I reach my target of sixty five kg.

I have got to do something as I seem to be gaining weight by the week and seem to be eating more and more without any reason or cause.

Update : Since I wrote this post yesterday, one of my friends has promised a new physique by 31st August or he will treat our circle of friends to dinner at Kingwood. Another has set a target date of 25th December as he said that for him and his 95kg, and it will take time.

Update : i couldn’t stick to the diet. after 30 minutes of walking, 30 minutes of aerobics and 90 minutes of carrying weights I came home so hungry I had to take some noodles, cabbage, sausage and an egg :) he he

    It was hilarious that your son rested his head on your tummy! 8 kgs was a lot and unbelievable. It wasn’t hungry ghost month but you got released so early meh? LOL

    i escaped :) when the gate keeper was dozong hahaha

    What about jogging around your neighborhood?

    if i run around my neighbourhood, i will stop here n there buying stuff to eat :)

    hi bengbeng, everyone seem to agree with u about losing 3kg in a month. a word of caution. it is too much too quickly. Lose 1kg a month, is a better goal.u will lose 12kg over a year. That is a good aim, gradual and sustained slimming so that it becomes a habit and also it will allow ur stomach to shrink slowly. also number 6 in ur exercise wish list… increasing weights in ur gym workout is not going to make u slim.That is for shaping ur body. To lose weight u eat when you are hungry, and only enough to appease the hunger, and do aerobics like walking, swimming, cycling,skipping(or just jump up and down) and u do those exercises for a long time, with rests in between of course) and when weightlifting, use low weights with lots of reps and sets. the aim is to make it such a habit, u dont even think about it anymore. for eg, take a early morning or late evening walk gradually increasing the distance. a simple change of habit like that will do wonders.

    I am determined to make it work :) and will go to great lengths to lose that 3kg within a month :) Today I worked out even harder

    bengbeng, you remember about the interval training I told you about? Try it! It has been proven to help me lose weight faster than normal aerobic exercise.

    If you exercise a lot, you will feel hungry. I suggest you eat till you are quite satisfied. Just cut out most of those high carbs food and eat more protein.

    Don’t diet. Eat more often but in small quantity. If you exercise in the evening, obvviously you need to eat even if it’s after 7 or 8pm. If you exercise in the day time, then you can try to stop eating after 8pm.

    Lose 3kg a month may be too much, IMHO. Lose 1 kg a month is better and healthier : )

    I work out in a group. so i have to follow their program but i have improvised a little of the interval training. tonight I will eat an apple an a protein drink. thanks for yr advice. eat in small quantity is difficult for me but i will try :)
