Snake fright and over flowing drains

Life is just dandy nowadays. There is always the sense of euphoria after a great workout. It happens even if I arrive at the gym seemingly exhausted. After gym I am just too tired to even think about blogging. Last night when i was about to blog I was distracted by Benghui shouting, “Daddy is floating away”. :)

I smiled but didn’t bother to go to check. He shouted again in earnest and I rushed out to check. My slippers were floating away. Managed to save them in time. The incident didn’t end there. The kitchen was flooded and I had no time to clean-up, I woke up at 5.30 this morning hahaha. Probably too tired following the developments on the internet about the three by-elections. Namely in Batang Ai, Bukit Selambau and Bukit Gantang. Pakatan rakyat won 2-1. Batang Ai went to BN while the other two went to Pakatan Rakyat. I was a little surprised because the national media gave the impression that Pakatan Rakyat had very little chance of winning.

I had no breakfast ready for Benghui. Instead I just gave him some extra money for breakfast in school. This morning when we were about to go to school, Benghui as usual went out to put his school bag in my car and rushed back in. “There is a snake”, he screamed in fright.

There was indeed a snake coiled up near the car. Sensing the commotion it went into hiding. I remembered somebody telling me that a visit by a snake is a sign of good luck. Somebody also told me before to just quietly tell the snake to go away and it will. With the dog aggressively barking, it just wouldn’t work.

I was hoping it would go away to some vacant land nearby.

Mrs BB was laughing like crazy watching my antics. I did try to talk soothingly but it didn’t understand my language. Anyway, as were in a hurry, I ignored the snake.

Luckily when I came home it was nowhere in sight. Just in case any of you comments that I should have killed the snake, it is against my principles. It meant no harm and was just disorientated by the small flood the previous night.

What would you have done in my shoes?

  2. lilian says:

Well, if it is a python – buy lucky number 606
    if it is a cobra – 592
if it is none of the above, I don’t know what number lah. :)

But I would kill it cos you don’t want it to coil up somewhere in the home and …..? I don’t know lah, but that’s what my father used to do when we lived in kampong.

if i buy 4D , Mrs BB will nag me until Benghui gets married. :)

  3. fufu says:

    lol go buy 4D =)

u buy n if u strike it rich, send me some :)

I was told never to kill a snake. Cause they are vengeful and it will come back for you again. Eventually only two choices I guess, call the fire brigade, or get a long stick (a really long one if can lol cause i would anyway, i be afraid of it >.<) and try to make it go on it and then throw it away.

nah..ii am not the type to call for the fire brigade..so malu..so much attention when they come in their vehicle :)

  5. Paul says:

Fortunately the snake slithered away. Would have called the fire brigade.

i honestly hope it is still not somewhere around the compound coz there r lots of places for it to hide in and outside the house

  6. foongpc says:

Call BOMBA. That’s what I’ll do. And the BOMBA must be successful in catchin it, cos I don’t want the snake to visit again!

Btw, regarding your comments on my blog, you are the “biggie” blogger so I’m sure you’ll have no problem tagging 100 bloggers! : )

chest out with pride ( Foongpc says i am a biggie blogger :) )

  7. MiChi says:

Benghui is a cute boy with his screams! Just sprinkle lots of cheap sulphur around the house & the reptile would hiss its way out in no time. I saw the Bomba men doing that too and the snake crawled out of someone’s car. Good that you never thought of killing lives.

if it were really an immediate threat i might have reacted differently but Benghui was alert

  8. CK says:

My house area also flooded as the rain is too heavy and our drainage system is so lousy in Sibu. The water cannot flow away fast enough.
Snake…better call snake buster to catch it. Sibu got two famous snake buster will do it for free.

but why would they do it for free? that i cannot understand

  9. Nicole says:

    Oh what an adventure :)

I would have ignored the snake too.
Hey, I even try to save rainworms and caterpillars ;)

Hey, I even try to save rainworms and caterpillars ;) -> hey, we r kindred spirits. ( oh i am using such a big word n not often used in my vocabulary. i hope i am not using it wrongly )

    BB,

Sorry to hear about the floods again.

Why not have sand bags ready to go and just stack them when there might be a flood? Then, you have no water troubles. I have a couple hundred already to go at anytime. Cheap, just sand in a sack.

i am afraid water would just come in from all directions… sand bags wont work exept for the house itself n even then it would come up through the drains n pipes etc

But that particular snake looked like the dangerous poison variety.

If you don’t plan to kill it, better make sure it went away safely.

After all, as they say, even in bed, two’s a company and three’s a crowd.

u heard the saying, the more the merrier ? hahahahahahah

  12. Choonie says:

If I am you, I will definitely make sure that the snake will not crawl into my house area. I will not kill it cos I was told that killing the snake in our house compound is not a good thing. May be I will sweep it out of my house area.

    Choonie u r a brave woman

  13. Denise says:

I am glad you didn’t kill the snake. Your post was very interesting. Thank you.

Looking back, i am glad i didnt kill the snake too. :)

  14. horsoon says:

I’d probably freak out and even missed the chance to take a pic!

the camera was in the car.

  15. JL says:

Hmmm… I would call for the firemen to come pick them up. They are the experts in doing this :D

Actually I’m not surprised the MSM always portray the ruling party as having an advantage when they actually don’t. It’s all part of propaganda.

propaganda it may well be but it isn’t the true picture

  16. sakaigirl says:

haha, i’ll do the same too, talking to the snake^^
We had a huge snake before in our bathtub (last time we lived beside the jungle) we juz open the door for it to go, i was very young then.. i think after he had enuf sleep, he’ll go off by himself la..

a bit difficult as the snake could be scared of the dog but so far it hasn’t popped up today which is a blessing
