Flower photography

From flowers

I woke up late last Sunday in my bed at Kuala Rejang. Looked at my watch and it was an early hour. My friends had gone out to take pics. Anyway I didn’t want to be left behind. I observed that photography was a serious business. Full of concentration looking for the right shot.

It is said imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. So, I followed him around trying to take shots which he took. All these pics are from and around my hosts’ house. Red rose.

From flowers

This is called penyapu plant or broom plant because of its broom-like nature.

At this juncture I was feeling pretty pleased with myself. I was aping the more experienced and skilled photographers. Perhaps I will learn something.

From flowers

A pretty ordinary shot.

An equally beautiful but ordinary shot, Bengbeng. You got to take more interesting photos. Photos which can attract attention. I give you an assignment. Find a bee feeding.

From Kuala Rejang

I found this bee.

From Kuala Rejang

And this bee. Sigh. i have so much to learn. But I got a long time to do it which is a good thing.

The thing is to admit ignorance and work from there. Be ready to learn. We must always be ready to learn, not be cocky but humble when we want to learn from others.

I’m not a professional photographer so I wouldn’t know much, but I think your pics are quite good. The bee moves around a lot I presume, that could be the reason why it’s a bit blurred. Moving subjects are one of the hardest pics to take in my opinion. :)

if i had chosen the right shutter speed it might have helped maybe :) . thanks

    Practice make perfect. :)
I’ve got a lot to learn too.

in a year’s time we will check each other’s pics :)

The shots are beautiful. I am not professional myself. I am one big Amateur trying to act professional lol. I love your shots! They are gorgeous and capture the right angle. IMO~

my iso and shutter speed was all wrong although composition was a littel ok maybe :)

Sometimes we need a hundred shots before the perfect one appears. :)

I recommend getting the 50mm for your DSLR, BengBeng. You’ll be really amazed with the shots you take with it. It’s true that it’s not the equipment that makes the photographer, but having a nice lens helps a bunch. And the 50mm is affordable too.

thanks. i will check it out.

If you’ve got a lot to learn, then I’ve got much, much more to learn! Yes, it’s good to be humble even when we think we already know a lot! Cos there’s always somebody who knows more than us.

    amen to that :)

Btw, I think your photos are already nice by my standards : )

nice of u to say that. thanks :)

I sucked at my photography in my Nanyang Fine Arts Day. Especially during the photo developing in the Dark Room.

One day I was convinced that my current shots will warrant a D grade for a project, I asked a fellow female classmate to spare me an unsatisfactory shot she took, so that I can submit it as mine. The irony was that I got an A grade for that photo she discarded while she got a B grade for the photo she deem perfect.

The photos you took looked great. Just do not give it to someone like me. HAHA.

in uni i did my assignment. i sent it for binding. later i found out many literally many bought a copy of the assignment from the shop. there were so many copies of my assignment and look alikes sent in to the lecturer.. i got a C, others got A or B. it seems the lecturer thought i was copy n paste from them. :(

I like the 2nd last shot…the bee looks like it got stuck in the flower petal! :)

am glad someone liked my shot

    I love your ‘floating’ rose.

I like the broom plant and the bee shots. I also have a lot of flower photos, i snapped all those during the start of spring here.

it is such a joy isnt it taking ics of flowers. especially when they r so well behaved n dont run away when we want to take their pics :)

iso and shutter speed all wrong? :o
Sure didn’t look like it to me… But now that you mentioned it, I do noticed some of them being blur. Had a higher shutter speed going?
Though I can’t really tell on the iso. :P . Maybe I am color blind? lol

nolah how can u be color blind when yr pics r great? there is still much room for improvement in my photography

It’s a challenge photographing moving insects like bees and butterflies. Often times I don’t bother coz you can’t track these fast flying insects. Unless they’re perched on flowers or resting on the ground.

we have to keep on improving ourselves :) create n face new challenges

I hope I have a good camera to capture shots like yours.

It is not the camera I believe. Like when we were in Kenyalang Park, you took great shots of the food with my instamatic whereas I ended up with lousy shots :0 . It is yr skill.

  16. ayie says:

It’s a challenge though to capture crazily moving subjects!

it is difficult to wait for a bee to appear from nowhere n predict where it will land :)

BB, you started to take some really nice pictures! Keep it up!

thanks. praise from a photographer like u is praise indeed
