David Carradine : The passing of a legend 1936-2009

David Carradine :

What happens in a man’s life is already written,
man must move through life as his destiny wills,
yet each man is free to live as he chooses,
though they seem opposite, both are true

Caine compares the Tao with water in this conversation. Water is a great analogy for the Tao since all life depends on water, yet water always takes the lowest position. Water would rather take the easy path around a mountain, than to force it’s way through. Nothing is softer than water, but given enough time water will wear down the hardest rock and cut the deepest ravines.

David Carradine helped popularize kung fu movies in the west. Unable to get Bruce Lee to play the part of Caine, they settled for David Carradine. They liked David Carradine: the inner serenity that Carradine brought to the role. The show proved to be huge hit, launching Carradine’s career. The fact that he wasn’t Asian or even remotely looked like one wasn’t a factor important enough to consider in those days. Remember Charlie Chan?

In that era , everybody was Kung Fu fighting.

It feels so strange when someone who acted in a popular TV series passes on. Makes one think about aging.

i was in form 4 when that show made it’s debut on S’pore TV. without anyone filling in Bruce Lee’s big shoes, & with Carl Douglas singing his iconic hit song, no wonder everyone was Kung Fu fighting!!

Can’t believe he took his own life. “Kung Fu” was very much a part of my formative years.
