Nasi lemak for beginners

This morning Benghui told me he wanted to learn to cook nasi lemak. I took him to market to buy coconut milk. We could not find any pandan leaf. I also bought a can of sambal ikan bilis. We came home. Mrs BB said canned ikan bilis is not healthy and so not to cook it :( . What a life!!! . I looked at Benghui. He looked at me.

From food

Nuts and anchovies. This was easy. I put it in the microwave. No oil, no nothing. Surprisingly it came out well.

From food

Curry chicken.

From food

Cucumber, onions and eggs.

From food

I call this cucumber corn chicken soup :P I used cucumber, chicken, pepper, salt and corn.

From food

My nasi lemak. It is so easy. Benghui wasn’t of much help today. He was too busy watching tv but he did all the food preparation and washing up afterwards. He also made tea for me. You want some nasi lemak? We all loved it. It was supposed to last for breakfast and lunch but it was barely enough for breakfast.

I forgot to blog about the nasi lemak itself. I boiled some chicken for a few minutes and used the soup to cook the rice together with coconut milk and some garlic. The leftover chicken was used to make the curry and the soup. As you can see, I used everything in small portions and it isn’t easy to cook for a small family. Total cost of meal : Rm6.00 including chicken

Nasi Lemak is my fav food.
Are you sure that cost only RM6.00. That is really cheap. I dont think I can cook a meal so cheap at Subang Jaya.

The ingredients are simple. The main expense is the chicken itself.

Interesting to cook your rice in this way. Never thought of using chicken stock for nasi lemak…thanks.

Got this idea from a shop in town. She used nasi lemak rice and used it for chicken rice. It came out good. I thought if she could do that why shouldn’t I try combining chicken rice and nasi lemak. It had a good result but slightly oilier than usual. Otherwise I would have put in a little margarine or butter

Wow yum yum! This is how you improvise when you don’t have the ingredients you want. Hehe

Btw I realize you use microwave quite often..? Microwave is no good for health lo.

It is ok if we let the food rest for a while before consuming it, i think :)
