Parenting rants and lost youth
If you were seventeen again, what would you change if you had a second chance? Everybody deserves a second chance in life but few are given the second chance. Tell me, what would be the first thing you would change if you had this second chance?
It is so easy to think back and wonder what we would change, isn’t it with the benefit of hindsight. What would you change? Would it be a career change, a choice of life partner, a change in life direction or something more intimate and specific relevant only to yourself?
It is not sour grapes for me to say my life or your life could have been different. But for many of us, we have been on this path for so long. For some of us, we have become so entrenched in our ways nothing less than a mule could pull us out of the rut we are in.
The way I look at it, few feel confident enough to say they are happy with their life. Being contented seems to be a word out of vogue at the moment. People plod along different paths in search of the illusory happiness. They assume with different and changed circumstances, they will achieve a state of happiness.
Some look out of themselves along the spiritual path to attain it while some who see themselves as made of sterner self try to achieve it through leanings to various directions. Many are those who look for escapism instead through the company of books, friends, adoration for a loved one, alcohol, entertainment etc.
The important thing is as Neil Diamond says in this song, I am alive. We are alive. We have someone to share life with and to love.
Background to this post : I have been so frustrated the past hour trying to teach Benghui Mathematical concepts but I just don’t seem to get through. Two lives ( parents ) held to ransom in pursuit of a secure and better life for the offspring(s). Do all our aspirations of our own youth still matter any more? I think not.
Another Bengbeng Tuesday night nonsense rubbish post.

This reminds me so much of the movie 17 again. Have you watched it?
I have seen the trailer only
Math is never easy to teach
Hence the frustration!
Effective today, I have been assigned to sit at the same table with Benghui while he is studying.
I think I wld have felt so fortunate to be able to seek spirituality and live life generally with much more awareness if I ever had the chance to turn back the clock. This human birth of ours is so so precious and time-limited that we should waste time idling away.
That’s my boring rant. ^_^
Ant
it is not boring at all. I think quite a number of people share similar aspirations. As a teenager I had quite noble aspirations too
If I could change one thing…I would change my choice of studies which will lead to a change in career choice.
Other than that, I wouldn’t want to live my life any differently.
You wrote : I wouldn’t want to live my life any differently.-> that is a good sign
Don’t worry Bengbeng, you will have the chance to live your life again in a different way in your next life. Meantime, just be happy with your current life because you have chosen this path : )
Hard to say, hopefully there r many more yrs to come
