This week’s theme is flags.

From Chingay procession Penang 2008

For this theme, I highlight the Chingay procession in Penang.

Flags are an integral part of this procession.

Flags are carried around the streets of Georgetown

The selection of flag pole is very important, it has to go through special handling to suit the requirements of the Chingay players, they are not to be easily broken

The Chingay procession during the earlier period must have the blessing of the deity and approval of the Goddess of Mercy ( Guanyin ) before it went on tour.

As you can see from the pics, it requires a certain amount of skill and strength.

Yeah! It certainly need a lot of skills and certainly energy to do it. My the flag is so huge. I don’t think I can do it. Haha :D At least not without training. I have never seen this occasion with my own eyes except from newspaper. :D

    Anyway nice snaps.

    Hi Bengbeng –

You answered my call. (Was wishing I had Chingay photos to show people!) Interesting that many of the photos appear to have been taken in the dark. My memory of Chingay is that it’s a day event! :)
