Lucky draw and Sibu people are so lucky

An otherwise routine afternoon atmosphere at work changed into elation when I received a call. I had won a free two nights and three days stay at a leading hotel in town. It was a lucky draw. My whoops of excitement raised eyebrows among my colleagues. They asked me to tell them the reason for my happiness.

Guess what? The reception was totally unexpected. Almost everybody looked at each other. They had received the same call too either today or a few days before. Then the brief excitement faded. It works like this. Apparently a friend of mine had gone to claim the voucher and was given a lengthy sales pitch. She was then asked to bring more people to the same place so that she would be entitled to receive the voucher. By then she guessed she had been taken for a ride.

I really don’t know if it is a scam to persuade me and others like me to hear the sales pitch. But I guess they can’t give the free voucher to everybody. I decided not to go to hear the sales pitch. “What if it is for real?, Mrs BB asked. Nothing in life comes free. :) Do you think I should have gone to claim the free voucher?

If I need a stay in a hotel, I guess I would have to pay for it. :)

I received the same call just like yours! I heard many in Sibu receive that call. They ask you to go Tanahmas for the voucher, is it? It is a scam! I just ignored it after listen to it a few minutes.

So, you didnt get the voucher? :)

Let every one know about this.

Two weeks ago I got a phone call telling me I won a two night stay at Sun Way. I called Sun Way Hotel and was told that no such thing…I wasted some call money but I was safe from the length and jarring to the ears sale talk….Hope they won’t give heart attacks to senior citizens….I think hotels should not encourage their venue to be used for scams like this…”Please come to Imperial Hotel to meet me…and I will give you the voucher…”they called four or five times…

    they r quite persistent, really.

WOW! They are now so desperate already? I mean the scammers? Haih… =( We’d better not fall for it. As the saying goes…nothing is really free right?

    it’s probably part scam-part promotional.

the catch is that the hotel voucher can only be used on weekdays & not valid during school/public holidays & you have to listen to 1hr of their sales pitch! also late check in -early check out & breakfast not included.

    sounds all too familiar….

oh, so they do actually offer the free hotel stay :)

Wow! This scam might come back to KL again, I better beware. I think you are lucky cos I heard KL folks get harassed by tele-callers too often. Averagely, I get such calls like twice a week and sometimes 3 times a day!!!!! That was the reason I changed my phone number once and enjoyed the short-lived peace temporary!

After i missed the appointment, they stopped calling me :)
