What will life be like when you are elderly and highly dependent upon others.

I like this video clip by Yasmin Ahmad. It made me think. For those not conversant in the local dialect it is a video about elderly women sadly neglected by their children. These same women are boasting about the achievements and success of their children. In the end, this humble woman who leaves in her son’s car has their envy when her son arrives and shows that he is always by her side.

I read in the papers the other day about how elderly folks are being abandoned in hospitals and it makes me sad. Anyway it was the topic of conversation the other day in my working place. I found this on the net. It is funny. Basically most of us are like the people here. Our self protective instinct is so thick it envelops us like a cocoon especially those of us who live in a less than perfect democracy. Through the years we have honed our skills to keep ourselves away from danger, to be not noticed or not to stand out from a crowd.

Jeffrey: Sometimes I wish there were more development in this place. Our longhouse people could set up small stalls to sell drink etc. Some tourists do stop by here occasionally.
