Sibu’s affordable Jalan Pedada market place.

I didn’t go to work today. Not feeling so good. Braving the traffic and hot sun, I just managed to park right in front of the clinic. I couldn’t care less if I had been issued a summons. I couldn’t manage to walk more than a few steps.
If I expected to receive some TLC from Mrs I was deeply disappointed
Instead it was Benghui who tended for me by bringing me my medicine and cups of water. Mrs BB was in a less than ‘playful’ mood. She was lamenting my unnecessary waste in not taking care of my health and the subsequent medical bills. Anyway consultation fees for clinics in Sibu are very affordable compared to some other towns.
” Do you know,” she asked, ” how much everything has increased in price?” I think that is true except for the price of medical consultation fees in Sibu. Anyway that gives me an idea for today’s post.
I recall last Saturday I was at the market and I bought half a chicken and was quoted a price which seemed a trifle expensive. I thought I had heard wrong. I innocently asked, ” How much is the price of a kg of dressed chicken now? There was a distinct moment of silence and then the lady reduced the price significantly.

I tried the same tactic at the fish stall. It didn’t work. She said the price of fish had risen and was beyond her control. Fish too had gone up in price.

Vegetables and fruits too had gone up in price but by a smaller margin. I don’t know the reason why.
Anyway I don’t know if it is a localized problem or it is the same at all outlets in Sibu. So Mrs BB insisted her I drive her to the market in Jalan Pedada. Fortunately prices there remained competitive.
I bought everything at a hefty discount relative to the cost I had to pay at my regular market. We intended to buy a chicken and a duck too but there was nobody to slaughter the birds and I was not in the mood to do it myself. The lady told us to come earlier if we wanted to buy dressed chickens or ducks.
The fish seller here was very friendly too. I think i will plan my marketing in the future and do my marketing here every week instead of going to the market near my place. Simply put, i have to stretch my ringgit to make ends meet.

Ya, good buy at the Sunday market. I went there sometimes while in Sibu. But, carrying loads of vegetables, chicken… and walking quite a distance can be tiring!
Get well soon.
Agreed about that .. i mean the tiring thingy. Parking can be a problem it is true
As long as you don’t need to drive to far and lose out on the petrol!
Sibu is too small for that to matter much
Sometime I go there with my mum for fruits.
Yes there r loads of fruits. The 2 pineapples with skin removed only cost me 5.00. Outside new Singkwong they r selling 1/4 pineapple for RM2.00 and it is of a cheaper grade of pineapples some more
Sometimes I find hypermarket products are more expensive than the normal small supermarket.
Btw how much is the doctor consultation fee in Sibu?
I paid a total of Rm20.00 including the cost of 4 types of medicine
Gosh, I really missed Sibu!
Surprised you still remember so much about Sibu
