“Bengbeng, you are so rich. ( I am struggling even to buy Benghui’s essentials for 2010 new school year. ) Buy some tickets. Support En Tao Methodist Church,” my good friend said. It is for a good cause so I figured it would be okay to buy a book of tickets. He kept repeating Yong Sun Paradise would be there. It is as if in his mind all bloggers hang out together all the time. ![]()
That thought made me smile and then I remembered nowadays every book of tickets costs RM50.00 Gone forever are the days when a book of tickets costs RM10.00. The value of money is now so small.
I was at a lsupermarket yesterday. The price of some foodstuff has risen since the last time I was there. As I had only about RM150.00+ with me, I decided to use my credit card. Then the cashier reminded me I had to pay 2% extra for using a credit card.
My bill was about RM250.00 which would have meant i would have to pay an extra RM5.00 to the supermarket just to purchase stuff there. I did the next best thing. I told the cashier I had changed my mind and bought stuff elsewhere instead. No need to feel embarrassed especially if I have to pay RM5.00 plus extra. In these difficult times, every ringgit counts.
I then went to visit my friend Martin at his shop. He wasn’t there but his elderly dad told me stories of Kabong. His wisdom stunned me. What did he say? In life he said, “HUA HEE TIO HO,” or literally be happy is good enough . I forgot my resentment about Sing Kwong Supermarket and the RM5.00 surcharge and realized I was free to buy anywhere I wanted and I could use cash instead of credit card in the future if I wanted to buy there in the future.
It is no big deal. There are after all so many options. Silly me. What’s the use of being uptight?

No use, nope.
Lucky you to meet a wise man along the way!
be frugal and wise with expenses =)
seriously, are u really that poor to the point of struggling for kid’s school essential? i found this is too exaggerating..
please add up the costs of text books, work books , uniforms, shoes, compulsory RM100 computer fee donation, school fees, exercise books etc etc etc and u have a huge figure. of course there are other figures not factored in or indirectly related to Benghui. as it is, average monthly fees directly linked to Benghui paid to others for services rendered is already about RM600.00.
rm600 per month is not a small figure. but we are not talking about living cost per person. we are talking about “school essential”, which cannot be rm600 per month, right?
thanks for the quick response. Great to have an exchange like this. By school essentials i was referring to expenses to be borne by parents at the beginning of the year not including the monthly living expenses.. Just do a survey on how much is the cost of the basic minimal expenses: three pairs of shirts, trousers, two pairs of shoes, add in RM100 compulsory computer fees donation to the school, school text books, school work books, exercise books, school administrative expenses n what nots n the school fees, you will see the figure is not small. this is in no way encompassing the living expenses just the basic fees. of course other expenses are still recurring and separate of these once in a year expenses
