Left the house early in the morning. Benghui was still sleeping. Had considered bringing him along but as he was still on medication and he had Sunday school, i thought it best to let him continue sleeping.

Proceeded to the outstation bus terminal for some chicken porridge for breakfast.

Drove to the Nirvana Memorial Park. On the program was King of Durians Festival. Saw this funny guy doing some crazy stunt. Puzzled. What was he doing?

From Durian festival

“Oh,” this sweet young thing exclaimed. ” He is not crazy. For RM5.00 you too can wish for prosperity and world peace. For RM2.00 you can make any wish you want. Write it on the ribbon and throw it up onto the wishing tree. You can buy it here.”

Abana is always one for trying out new things. In a flash RM5.00 had changed hands. Or perhaps he just wanted to chat up the sweet young thing. :)

From Durian festival

In an Obama-like-mood, Abana wished for global peace and for Mother Fortune to smile kindly upon him. ;)

From Durian festival

With a single throw in a throwing-a-boomerang-movement, the wish for global peace landed itself on the wishing tree. Must remember to ask Abana if his origins are from Australia in some kangaroo ridden county.

As I was about to pay RM2.00 for the wish, out of the corner of my eye, I spotted Philip. He had come although he was busy.

From Durian festival

Philip here so early in the morning? Then I looked around and comprehension descended upon me. Nirvana Memorial Park had sponsored 2000 of the best Sibu durians for all those present. :) To qualify to eat, you have to fulfill one condition. You must be physically present. :)

From Durian festival

By then, things had really started happening. With this master of ceremony chatting non stop cajoling the crowd, everybody was soon on the move and happy. The crowd was patiently waiting for the events to unfold and looking at the durians from time to time. 2000 free durians courtesy of Nirvana Memorial Park.

From Durian festival

As more and more people arrived, more umbrellas were brought in to shield the crowd from the blazing sun.

From Durian festival

Abana: Bengbeng. Relax. Stop looking at the pretty girl. Look at the wishing tree. Just throw. You can do it.

Heard a sound, looked back and saw that another wish had already been sent to heaven via the wishing tree… a different wishing tree.

To be continued.
