Wow! Things are really hotting up in Kuala Lumpur. Tom Jones is in town. His hits like It’s Not Unusual, What’s New Pussycat, Delilah and Green Green Grass Of Home still reverberate through karaoke joints every night from Asia to Europe to the Americas….

It’s not unusual.

He is quoted as saying that he likes to see authentic things and there’s plenty of that in our country. You are so right about that Tom Jones.

Anyway back to nostalgia zone. As a teenager I belonged to a ‘gang’ but we were not gangsters :D Basically we just loitered at the vicinity of the cemetery. Our ever present companion was a kapok guitar.

Green green grass of home

Inspired by televison shows showing fans throwing bras and what-nots at him, we sang his songs accompanied by an out-of-tune Kapok guitar. I believe that the spirits in the cemetery must have either been amused by our songs or been downright annoyed. But we were young, we had no where else to go.

It was a healthy activity and looking back, it was a good bunch. Everybody turned out well.

Alleycats: Andainya aku pergi dulu

No matter how horrendous we sounded. More like alley cats I tell you and definitely not like the legendary Alley Cats Band. I am talking of a chorus of cat howls. :D Nowadays when we meet it is no longer about ourselves. It is about college of choice for the children, discipline, rising cost of living, their choice of companions etc etc.

Actually I am feeling a little depressed to see developments on something I read. It has been such a long time and seeing his face again and then knowing he is no more is very sad. Anyway I was never in his league. Backgrounds too different.

Nevertheless I mourn for a brilliant life brutally cut short and pray for him and pray his soul finds peace and solace in the other life. I am hopeful the perpetrator will not escape the long arms of the law.
