Who hasn’t heard of Readers Digest? I have been hooked since it was sold for RM2.00 a copy and RM12.00 annually if one subscribes.

I can honestly say reading the Readers Digest has helped me with my grasp of the English language. Consequently, it has also helped me in my education, career and also socially. Some readers might think I am over blowing this issue but when one has the perspective of looking back in dimensions of fractions of a century, one’s perspective changes :)

Anyway, there came a time when Readers Digest priced itself out of my budget. I had to read it at a library I frequent or borrow from friends occasionally. When I had to move to my present residence, my prized collection of Readers Digest was given to a man who sold them on the pavement at Beach Street. He said they were sold in an afternoon.

Then recently, feeling a little prosperous, I decided to subscribe for Readers Digest again. It cost me a princely sum of about RM150.00 after discount. I consoled myself I needed a reward for my hard work, it would be educational for Benghui etc etc. A free watch was also promised in the bargain.

Alas after waiting for an appropriate period of time, my prized Readers Digest arrived. :( It was in Chinese and everybody knows I can’t read Chinese.

A letter to P.O. Box 10808, 50726 Kuala Lumpur yielded no results or response. Thinking about the cost of an outstation call to KL probably to receive a reply from a computer put me off. I then wrote an email to Readers Digest

Surprise , surprise, surprise. Roxanne of Customer Care Centre replied promptly and the error rectified courteously and promptly. She then told me I was to keep the Chinese version as a complimentary gift :) Now it remains to be seen if I will receive the gift watch as promised. I will give the watch to Benghui.

Anybody wants to bet if Readers Digest will deliver?

  1. My father used to subscribe Reader’s Digest too when I was studying. Guess he had the same objective as what you try to achieve with Benghui

I am still a subscriber to Reader’s Digest. Love reading it every month! The only thing I don’t like is they keep sending me letters, contests and brochures. What a waste of paper! They should be more environmentally friendly and stop sending junk mails to customers!!
