This week’s theme is beautiful. I found some problems selecting pics to fit this theme. I have been told I have weird taste in terms of what is beautiful and what is not. More often than not, I take pics most of my friends would ignore but I would consider beautiful. So call me weird if you wish.
Scorpion vs millipede.
To me this is a very beautiful picture
. My son laughed at this choice. So be it. Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder
On a more personal note, I find this the most beautiful picture. My weighing scale today showed a reading of about 69 to 70kg. I have been on a diet and trying to lead a more active and healthy life style. I didn’t expect it to be so successful in terms of weight loss. My ultimate target is 66 kg.

Hello all!
Ah the pressure, on those setting off on so-called adventures, to report back substantial news. It’s been about six weeks and I confess that all I have to offer is merely ephemeral, trifling matters, but I’ll do my best to talk them up.
TRAVELS! I’ve been transporting myself long distances and going for fabulous runs through Wimbledon Common to look for Wombles, Yeading to race the geriatrics on their mobility carts and Alton fields to battle with the nasty stinging nettles that stick out their tentacles onto the paths. It’s travel of sorts. And I guess under this heading I should mention things like visiting many museums and other places.
DANGER!! I don’t think I’ve actually been in any danger myself but have witnessed more angry Londoners going off their nut in public: altercations, girl screaming matches, bus driver vs angsty teenager, cell phone tantys…
None at me yet, but perhaps it’s all more to do with a bit of a blurred line between the public and private sphere of the city, which may also explain the high rate of suck-off-your-face PDA on tubes, platforms, parks - a subject not really suited to the Danger-category… I digress.
ROMANCE! …well if *hypothetically* I was planning to score myself a nice English boy I decided I would look at a place like Henley Royal Regatta - where I went with sister, brother and several others on my birthday. Might as well have a nice man in a fancy-school blazer who’ll drive me in his flash car (with the top up so I don’t loose my posh hat). Henley was fascinating - I actually heard ‘Tally-Ho’ in proper context for the first time ever, when a toffy voiced gentleman in Tweed with wifey on his arm, excused himself from a conversation on the banks of the Thames with “well! Tally-ho, we’ll be off, see you by the by!”
I miss all of you… yes – even….you.

I mentioned before when we reached Kanowit, we were too late for the power boat regatta.
This is the only power boat we saw
However I loved this dabai or local Sarawakian olive sculpture.
Being a very hot day, I was looking seriously for a place to cool down. When I went over to this place I saw this temple which looked very welcoming.
It was cool inside the temple.
The mystical dragon
The altar
I hope somebody will tell me what the characters in this piece of art means.
This is absolutely beautiful. A specimen of imported from China art
A cauldron in a temple is never empty.
After leaving Julau town, we were surprised to see a PKR flag hanging from one of the houses on the outskirts of Julau town.
From Julau to Kanowit, the road wasn’t smooth as upgrading was being carried out
victor was the perfect companion. Never once did he complain about the road condition. But the weather thankfully was perfect. I wouldn’t like to drive along this road at night. We were on the way to Kanowit to witness the kanowit regatta.
We arrived late after spending too much time at Julau
. Luckily I have a good friend in philip The above pics are illustrative of the scenes I missed. I appreciate this.
Thanks Philip! Notice the high quality of the photography. It was all taken by philip
Anwar garnered 31,195 votes while BN’s Arif Shah Omar Shah got 15,524 votes, giving Anwar a thumping majority of 15,671 votes. This landslide victory brought a range of emotions amongst my freinds and acquaintances depending on their political leanings.
However almost all were surprised with the huge majority. As one of my friends put it, ” It came as a total surprise after watching the news on the telly for the past few weeks, reading the newspapers and listening to the radio. “
I learned a lot from victor about taking pics. You could consider this post a pictorial essay about Julau.
The river is an important means of transport.
Market scenes
We saw snake meat and other wild meat for sale. I was surprised to see ikan puyu for sale too.
Reading a newspaper while waiting for a boat to go home just like we wait for a bus or taxi. People whiling their time away enjoying the hustle and bustle of town life.
As their homes are far from town, the post box service provides an essential service for people living in the rural areas.
Not much space is wasted. Even nooks and corners in Julau town are used for gardening.
The owner of this motorcycle is creative. By attaching a cart to his motorcycle, the bike is converted to a tricycle which can carry goods for commercial purposes.
My weekend photographic trip with victor went well. There were others invited but some how or other it didn’t work out so Victor decided to drive us wherever our fancy took us. Being guys in charge of a vehicle and reluctant to ask for directions trying to act macho
we got lost and ended up in Julau first. It has been a long time since i went to Julau.
We parked our car in front of a church. Obviously there was no need for parking coupons etc. In fact i think I didn’t see a single traffic light in the whole town.
Being a Sunday morning, the town was busy. Everything was very colourful. What you see hanging are the plastic containers meant to feed chickens with water.
While young Victor was busy shopping, I looked at him and knew I had the responsibility to take care of him until at least we reached Sibu town safely. It is the Lion’s duty to always protect the Leos. But he was very considerate and polite all the way.
I have known Victor since we went to take pics at a longhouse near the Lanang Bridge when together we welcomed guests from Taiwan.
We decided to have breakfast. As luck would have it, it was a vegetarian shop. However it was well patronized by the town folks. I looked in amazement at a magic bottle being passed from table to table almost all the time. Could it be some kind of alcoholic beverage?
Anyway, soon it arrived at our table. It contained home-made chilly sauce. They have dispensed with the small saucers we use to serve chilli sauce. This way, no chilli sauce is wasted either.
To be continued……………..
The evening started well. I saw a rainbow at Lanang Road.
Notice the grand sunset.
The whole church worked hard to make it a success. The 40 days of purpose program was a major success. It involved even the Sunday school kids.
There was praising and worship.
Sharing how how God has worked wonders in individual lives.
Many voices become one to create music
Choir singing
Hey, a merman was found this morning in Kanowit. Oops, he doesn’t have a tail. Maybe he is not a merman. He is not a bird, not a Superman or Spiderman. He is my friend
I have been so busy this weekend. I still haven’t replied some comments. I have a ‘40 days of purpose’ dinner after this. It is organized by the Sibu Wesley Methodist Church. This morning I was in Kanowit, Durin and in Julau. Will blog about it later.
I had loads of fun.
By the way, this is Victor. Please say hi to him every body. ![]()
