A Chinese tradition for three generations to live under one roof

In the past, all the generations would live together. The first generation would help out around the house and command much respect. The grandfather would be the patriach of the family. His word was law.

As their health gradually deteriorated, the younger generation would take care of them until the day comes when they will be given a grand farewell. This arrangement worked well for the Chinese community. Those without families would be looked after by the community through the clan associations, benevolent societies etc.

No more outgoing calls for unregistered prepaid users

Until midnight yesterday, mobile services provider centers here were packed to the brim with customers rushing to register their prepaid lines before the scheduled deadline, which ended at midnight yesterday.

Those who have not registered had their lines barred from today. They cannot send SMSes, make outgoing calls or access the wireless Internet service, but they can receive incoming calls. 30th December is the deadline to register. After that the lines will be terminated. All remaining credit and loyalty rewards points will be forfeited and the existing cell phone numbers will be taken away from them. Read more »
