victor

I knew I would have a great weekend when I was invited along on a trip together with victor and william. The destination was a fruit orchard at rural Sungai Teku area. It is William’s ancestral village. The motive : to sample a variety of durians. I had so looked forward to it the whole of last night I could hardly sleep.

durians on tree pic

This was definitely durian country. There were durians everywhere. On the trees, on the ground, in baskets, inside the house and outside the house.

durians on tree

I was a little weary of durians falling on my head. While we were there. We could hear durians dropping all over the place. There would be a loud thud as a durian drops to the ground.

durian

This man picked up a durian within seconds of its fall. Such a friendly and kind man. Was indeed an honor to be there as a guest of the family.

cutting durians

Then we all gathered together sitting on long benches while the expert cut durians for us to eat. They had brought us the best the orchard could produce. You can well imagine what a feast we had. Price was not an issue as we were family guests and it was free. :)

durian pulp

On this particular farm, the fruits were free of pesticides.

water in durian

After eating durians, it is a custom to put water inside the durian husk as in pic and drink it. The reason being that it is supposed to cool down the body.

green thumb sunday

This is an update from my garden and meant for Green Thumb Sunday. It is difficult for me to post often on Green Thumb Sunday as I don’t plant exotic flowers etc. I have a few flowers etc but those are colorful flowers but not exotic expensive blooms.

oranges

I am generally a very lazy gardener who limits himself to watering the flowers and leave my fruit trees alone. My dog runs loose in the garden. Recently I put some fertilizer in the garden and wonderful results can be seen.

green thumb sunday

I was really not looking forward to this weekend. Why? I was supposed to cut the grass in my garden this weekend. My wife has been nagging me day after day to do it. It gets so annoying ;) after a few repetitions. I was hoping she would forget about it after a while. In the meantime I had continued reading my newspapers and blogging. After threats of ‘go and make your own dinner’, I finally got off my sofa and ventured into the garden. :)

vegetable bed

Anything to stretch the ringgit our local currency. What we see here is a bed full of ‘kailan’. It is an arrangement between me and another man. He gives me a share of his harvest for a little assistance , friendship, good will and use of unused land :) He plants other stuff too but it is too late at night to take good photos.

close up wild flower

A beautiful flower?

wild flower

Nature doesn’t discriminate. Look at this simple flower. It looks beautiful. Yet it has no function at all. It is a common weed in the garden and is a hardy plant. The plant was growing all around the stump of my red palm.

yam

I have this plant of the yam family all over my garden. It is very hard to get rid of. Some people think of it as an ornamental plant. My question is does any one know whether its yam is safe to eat? I welcome feedback. I have quite a number of this type of plant. The biggest I had was was almost two meters tall last Christmas but it died during my house renovation.

This is a white pomelo tree. It isn’t particularly healthy as the soil isn’t very fertile. My soil is a hard clayish kind of soil. Anyway these are the fruits I harvested.

green thumb sunday

I just discovered this group of bloggers who are into gardening and possess green thumbs. I hardly qualify being just an enthusiast but I am joining them just to see how it goes. You can read more about this group from Richard

water plantwhite flower

I was pleasantly surprised when I saw it flowering this morning. I don’t know the name of this plant but it needs lots of water. Any body who knows the name of this plant please tell me the name :)

The citrus fruits are from my garden but they just happened to be there because my son went to get some fruits to eat and put it there.
