Marriages between borders sound romantic but one should tread the path with caution. The problem is the different cultures, norms and values.

Case 1
I met a woman today. She is a grandmother but misses her grandchildren. She last saw them last Harvest Festival ( Gawai Dayak ) or June last year when the youngest was two months old.

What happened? Her son met a pretty Indonesian woman. They fell in love and got married despite parental protests. She was a worker in a factory and bore him two sons. The problem was she had to leave the country every now and then because of visa problems and this caused extreme financial hardship to the husband. The children were beautiful.

Somehow when we look at some one and feel attracted, everything seems wonderful. In love is the general term. They all talked of his charms, his good looks, his sincerity. But when he left, he left them bitter, rejected and dejected.

A 45-year-old man who rejected a woman’s proposal of marriage has reported to the police of death threats made to him. Prior to this he had found out that his girl friend who worked in an entertainment outlet had threatened to get people to do the job for her.

In yet another case, a man has reported to the police he was threatened by his brother-in-law and asked to pay RM5000 monthly alimony charges as well as compensation amounting to RM300 000. The marriage had apparently broken down and they were living separate lives. What precipitated this whole incident was his decision to file for divorce.

It was not the conventional way of meeting but the end result was the same. They fell in love and will get married on the 1st of July.

So, how did they meet? They met through the internet and chatted with each other as strangers. Nowadays there are the MIRC, Yahoo Messenger, MSN Messenger, ICQ ..just to name but a few. Slowly as they got to know each other, the guy, businessman Lee Kok Kuan, finally found the ‘oomph’ to ask the lady, Ng Sin Yee out on a date. Their first meeting must have been like a blind date. Where shall we meet, how will you be dressed, will he or she like me in person, what if he or she is disappointed in me…. all these thoughts must have flashed through their minds.

Man with a Vietnamese wife speaks out

Amidst all the controversy of Vietnamese girls being paraded in small-town coffee shops as victims, a man has come out to speak of his experience. He regrets it and wants out of the arrangement.

C.H. Yip, 51 is an insurance company official and married a Vietnamese woman four months ago. He claims the 28-year-old-woman has changed, and has in his own words done everything from extorting money from him, to physically assaulting him and even threatening to emasculate him. (more…)

I am a 40 plus senior administrator. After so many years of working life, I am financially secure and reached as far up the promotional ladder as I can before my retirement.

Sometimes, when I wake up in the morning and look at myself, I can’t imagine already I am so old. My tummy is still so flat and apart from a wrinkle around my upper lip I still look younger than my age. I am also a conscientious dresser and a perfectionist.

Wives bought and sold after ‘bridal’ girls parades in small-town-coffeeshops.

Madam Cupid has upgraded herself in Malaysia. Now, seeking a Vietnamese bride can be done without hassle. These potential wives are paraded in coffeeshops and the potential buyers get to have a first-hand-look at the girls. Because of poverty and problems back home, these women are resorting to becoming wives to complete strangers.
