As a committee member of the Photographic Society of Sibu I was asked to be present during the official opening ceremony. The roads were jammed and it took me a long time before I could find a parking lot far from the venue.

Life in the longhouse is pretty much the same as it is in small towns like Sibu all over Malaysia. There are few job opportunities and the young have to move elsewhere to earn a living. Many have moved to other divisions or as far as West Malaysia or Singapore. Thus Gawai is a season to rejoice as family members have a reunion and see each other and just enjoy each other’s company.

I am a freak. I go around looking for flora and fauna to photograph. I call this the fat-one. A perfectly formed monkey cup. Isn’t it exquisite? It is the most beautiful bloom I found today.
