Continuation of sibu-selangau-balingian-long-house
When we arrived at Rumah Siba, the bus had a tough time reversing as the road was narrow. In the end it was decided that the driver should reverse into the compound of the long house. That in itself was no easy feat too. Every body then got off the bus. I did the same. Until I realized not every body got off the bus.

I went to a longhouse near Balingian today. Actually I went to three longhouses. The journey was a long one and tiring. When I think of KLites complaining of the LRT there and roads, I think they would change their minds when they see what is on offer here in the central region of Sarawak.

I had to take the afternoon off to send a friend over for physiotherapy at the Sibu General Hospital. The car park was full and I had to go a few rounds. I didn’t mind. The hospital is actually a beautiful place.

I discovered this place only a few days ago. I first saw it when I was with wuching but I didn’t realize it was open to the public. I must admit I know little about the history of Sibu town itself other than the first Foochow pioneers arrived in Sibu on board the M.S. Hong Bee about a century ago. It has developed by leaps and bounds since then.

We were fortunate enough to be invited to visit a long house at Sungai Assan. We were given a warm welcome including the traditional tuak and miring. When the cock was brought out to be sacrificed, all parties decided to let the cock live. The ceremony was mainly symbolic.
